Summary

  • Google Pixel 11 offers a new 48 MP main camera with up to 30x Super Zoom, a new Tensor G6 processor and better battery life.
  • iPhone 17 brings a 6.3-inch OLED display as that of the Pixel but with a lighter design, smaller battery and one less camera.
  • Pixel 11 starts at Rs 89,999 for 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage variant, while the iPhone 17 is cheaper at Rs 82,900.

The Google Pixel 11 is here, and believe it or not, it shares a lot of similarities to Apple's iPhone 17 from last year. Both companies are shipping their base flagship phones with a familiar design, similar display sizes, similar refresh rates, and similar 256 GB storage, too. So what's the catch, and which one is worth your money? Let's find out in this Pixel 11 vs iPhone 17 comparison.

Pixel 11 vs iPhone 17: Design and Build

  • Google Pixel 11 keeps the Pixel 10's body, and the iPhone 17 keeps the iPhone 16's form
  • Pixel 11 comes with an aluminium body covered by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both sides
  • The iPhone 17 sticks with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and back and an aluminium frame

Neither Google nor Apple did much shaking up in the design department. The newly launched Pixel 11 looks identical to last year's Pixel 10. Similarly, the iPhone 17 adopted the iPhone 16's look with the same aluminium frame and Ceramic Shield 2 on both the front and back glass.

In comparison, the iPhone 17 is lighter, weighing 177 grams, while the Pixel 11 comes in at 197 grams. But the size remains quite close between the two. Both devices also come with an IP68 rating for dust and water protection, so you don't have to worry if either one drops into the pool.

Another highlight of Pixel 11 is Pixel Snap. It means the phone has a built-in magnet to support MagSafe accessories like the Pixel ring stand and wireless charging, just like the iPhone 17.

Colour options might be the deciding factor for you, because the Pixel 11 comes in some new funky hues like Obsidian, Pistachio, Hibiscus, and Frost. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 comes in Lavender, Sage, Mist Blue, White, and Black

Pixel 11 vs iPhone 17: Display

  • Both phones land on a 6.3-inch OLED display with 120 Hz refresh rates
  • The iPhone 17 brings ProMotion to Apple's base model for the first time
  • The Pixel 11 pushes brighter, with up to 2,200 nits of peak brightness

When it comes to display, you cannot go wrong with either phone. The Pixel 11 comes with a 6.3-inch Full HD AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. If it was last year, Google would have won this department since Apple previously only offered a 60 Hz refresh rate on the base models and reserved ProMotion for the iPhone 16 Pro models.

Besides the big Android vs iOS difference, the key advantages with the Pixel 11 are the bigger battery, a brighter display than the iPhone, and the additional telephoto camera to take close-up shots. But it also comes at a higher cost, with the Pixel 11 starting at Rs 89,999 while the iPhone 17 is available for just Rs 82,900.

However, the iPhone 17 broke the chain, as it is the first base iPhone to come with a Super Retina XDR fluid ProMotion OLED screen. So, it should feel as smooth to scroll, swipe and jump between apps and games. The screen size is identical at 6.3 inches

Even in brightness, both of these phones are tied at 3,000 nits peak brightness. The only major difference in the displays is that the iPhone 17's screen will be sharper and provide better picture quality due to the iPhone having a higher-resolution display than the Pixel 11.

  • Pixel 11 runs the new Tensor G6, built on TSMC's 2nm process node
  • iPhone 17 runs Apple's A19 processor
  • The iPhone starts at 8 GB RAM, while the Pixel brings 12 GB RAM in the base variant

The Pixel 11 comes with the new Tensor G6 processor, which is based on TSMC's 2nm node. This means it should consume slightly less battery while delivering good performance. However, it still won't be able to match up to the raw performance of Apple's A19 chipset from last year.

Pixel 11's Tensor G6 leans towards delivering better image quality and more capable on-device AI features. While the iPhone 17's processor is for anyone who loves gaming on their phone and wants the best graphics at the highest frame rates.

Despite the ongoing RAM and storage shortage, the Pixel 11 starts at 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. In comparison, the iPhone 17 is stuck at only 8 GB of RAM, even on top-tier variants. You will need to upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro if you want more memory.

Pixel 11 vs iPhone 17: Software

  • Pixel 11 ships with Android 17 and deep, built-in Gemini integration
  • The iPhone 17 is currently running iOS 26, with Apple Intelligence on top
  • Google promises 7 years of software updates, but Apple's remain uncertain

Software is arguably the biggest differentiator between these two phones. The Pixel 11 ships with the latest Android 17 update with some Gemini AI features baked into it. It allows for some neat AI features like call screening, Add me, Gemini Live and the new Gemini Intelligence features that were initially supposed to debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 launch

The iPhone 17 runs iOS 26 with Apple Intelligence, which has matured significantly since launch but still feels lacklustre compared to Google's AI features.

However, the iOS 27 update is right around the corner, and it brings a more advanced Siri AI, which should be as good as Gemini, along with other Apple Intelligence features like Siri in the Camera app and new photo editing tools.

For updates, Google is promising 7 years of updates, a trend it started with the Pixel 8 series. Meanwhile, Apple's iPhones typically see at least 6 years of support without a formal public number attached to it. So both will offer long-term software support no matter which device you pick.

Pixel 11 vs iPhone 17: Camera

  • Google Pixel 11 gets a new 48 MP main sensor with a bigger aperture
  • The Pixel 11 also has a 13 MP ultrawide camera and a 10.8 MP 5x optical zoom lens
  • iPhone 17 keeps its dual 48MP Fusion camera system, unchanged from the iPhone 16

Camera lovers would definitely like the stacked setup on the Pixel 11 over the iPhone. It comes with an improved 48 MP main camera with a 1/1.56" image sensor. This allows for detailed night shots without too much processing time and better dynamic range.

The iPhone 17 carries over the same 48 MP main and 48 MP ultrawide camera setup seen on the iPhone 16. It takes exemplary photos, but the images look less processed, which some people would prefer over Pixel's over-sharpened look.

The Pixel 11 also carries over the 13 MP ultrawide lens and the 10.8 MP 5x optical telephoto camera from the Pixel 10 Pro series. This allows for up to 30x Super Zoom photos. But the ultrawide photos will not look as detailed in day and nighttime compared to the iPhone 17's bigger 48 MP sensor.

On the selfie side, the iPhone takes charge with an 18 MP centre stage camera that can shoot portrait and landscape images without physically changing the orientation of the device. In comparison, the Pixel 11 has a 10.5 MP Dual PD selfie camera instead.

Pixel 11 vs iPhone 17: Battery

  • Google Pixel 11 carries a 4,985mAh battery
  • iPhone 17 comes with a 3,692mAh battery
  • Both devices support up to 25W wireless charging

Google rates the Pixel 11's battery at 4,985mAh capacity, a healthy number for a compact phone. It is a minor bump over last year's Pixel 10 but significantly more than the iPhone 17's 3,692mAh capacity. This means that the Pixel should last longer in day-to-day usage than Apple's iPhone.

Neither wins the competition for the best battery backup phone, like the OnePlus 15 or the Oppo Find X9 Pro. But the good news is both devices support 25W wireless charging.

This means it will be almost as fast to charge these phones wirelessly as it will be wired. The Pixel 11 also supports 30W wired charging, claiming a 55% charge in 30 minutes of charging.

Besides the big Android vs iOS difference, the key advantages of the Pixel 11 are its bigger battery, a brighter display than the iPhone, and an additional telephoto camera for close-up shots. But the upgrades are not as significant as the last generation, which is why I don't care about the new Pixel 11

Plus, it also comes at a higher cost, with the Pixel 11 starting at Rs 89,999 while the iPhone 17 is available for just Rs 82,900.

So if you were choosing based on price alone, the iPhone 17 will be more pocket-friendly this year. But if you are deep into the Google ecosystem, want the best Gemini Intelligence features and prefer the features in the Pixel 11, then it might be the right pick for you.
