Recording a phone call on Android is easy once you know which Phone app you are using. The record button is generally available inside the dialler and every brand handles call recording a bit differently. The Google Phone app, Samsung's Phone app and the diallers from OnePlus, Oppo and Vivo all have their own steps. So, in this guide, I have covered how to record a call on Android without installing an app and how to turn on automatic call recording. On that note, let us begin.
First, Check Which Phone App Your Android Phone Uses
Before you look for the record button, go ahead and find out which Phone app is set as the default on your Android phone.
- Open Settings and go to Apps > Default apps.
- Now, tap on the Phone app to see which dialler is currently selected.

If it shows Phone by Google, follow the Google Phone app section below. And if it shows Samsung's Phone app or a dialler from OnePlus, Oppo, Realme or Vivo, go ahead and jump to the appropriate section below.

- Once the other person picks up, tap on More and hit the Record button on the call screen.
- On a Pixel phone, tap on Call Assist and then Call Recording.

- Here, open Record calls.

Find Recorded Calls on Samsung

To find your call recordings on a Samsung phone, go to Phone app > three-dot menu > Settings > Record calls > Recorded calls. Samsung saves these files in the phone's internal storage, so if you record every call, the folder can become pretty large over a few months. If storage space becomes a problem, follow our guide on how to free up internal storage on a Samsung phone.
How to Record Calls on OnePlus, Oppo and Realme Phones
Most OnePlus, Oppo and Realme phones now ship with the Google Phone app as the default dialler. So, first check your default Phone app and then follow one of the methods below. If the Google Phone app is your default dialler, follow the steps in the Google Phone app section above. But if you are using the native ODialer app, follow the steps below. You can also switch to the ODialer app by replacing the Google Phone app.
Use the ODialer App
Oppo's ColorOS has a dialler app called ODialer on the Google Play Store. It works on Oppo, OnePlus and Realme phones running Android 12 or later. Best of all, it supports both manual and automatic call recording and doesn't announce call recording.
- First off, install ODialer from the Play Store (Download) and open it.
- When prompted, set ODialer as the default Phone app.
- Now, make a call and tap on the Record button.
- You can also open ODialer's call recording settings and turn on automatic recording.

Unlock the Built-in OnePlus or Oppo Phone App
Recent OnePlus and Oppo software for India comes with the company's own Phone app, but it's actually hidden behind a secret OnePlus code. Users have reported it working on Android 16 with build 16.0.10.501 or later and the August 2026 security patch installed. Here are the steps to follow.
- Open your current Phone app and dial *#*#677776#*#* as it is.
- Accept the prompt and restart your phone.

- After the reboot, go to Settings > Apps > Default apps > Phone app.
- Here, select ODialer, OnePlus or Oppo Phone app.
- Now, make a call and tap on the Record button on the call screen. You are done.

How to Record Calls on Vivo and iQOO Phones
Many Vivo and iQOO phones in India use the Google Phone app by default, but older phones come with Vivo's own Phone app hidden in the background. Vivo's dialler app can record calls without an announcement and supports automatic recording and you can enable it via a Vivo secret code.
- Open the Phone app and dial *#*#556688#*#* exactly like it's mentioned.
- You will move to the Alternate Phone and Contacts page. Here, enable the toggle and tap on OK > Set now.
- Now, set Vivo's Phone app as your default dialler.
- Go ahead and make a call and tap on Record on the call screen.

If the above code does not work on your phone, open Settings > Apps and look for Enable Alternate Phone & Contacts. Vivo has replaced Funtouch OS with OriginOS in India so the exact menu names may change on newer software such as OriginOS 7.
Do Third-Party Call Recorder Apps Still Work on Android?
Actually, since 2022, Google has barred apps from using Android's Accessibility API to record call audio. It was the main way third-party apps recorded both sides of a call. Some apps like Cube ACR work around this with a separate connector plugin and other apps ask you to install a helper app from outside the Play Store.
Truecaller also offers call recording on Android, but calls go through a cloud recording line, which is something I wouldn't recommend due to privacy risks. Overall, these workarounds need sensitive permissions, so I would recommend sticking to the built-in Phone app methods to protect your security and privacy.
