MediaTek's Dimensity 8450 is shaping up to be a great chip in the upper mid-range Android segment. It brings newer CPU cores, a more capable GPU, and overall, improved efficiency. But, how does it stack up against its predecessor, the Dimensity 8350? To answer that, we have compared the Dimensity 8450 and Dimensity 8350 across AnTuTu, Geekbench, 3DMark, and more. In our first AnTuTu V10 benchmark, the Dimensity 8450 scored 1,645,212 points while the Dimensity 8350 achieved 1,355,407 points. Here, the Dimensity 8450, running on the Oppo Reno14 Pro is around 21% faster than the Dimensity 8350. In terms of GPU performance too, the difference is 17% and the CPU sees a substantial difference of 43%, which is amazing.

Now, to judge the CPU performance, we ran the Geekbench 6 CPU test, and the Dimensity 8450 scored 1,603 in single-core and 6,268 in multi-core. The Dimensity 8350, running on the OnePlus Nord CE5, achieved 1,385 in single-core and 4,310 in multi-core.
Thanks to the newer Cortex-A725 CPU cores, the Dimensity 8450 enjoys 15% faster performance in single-core tasks and a whopping 45% better performance in multi-core tasks. The Cortex-A725 is also more power efficient than the Cortex-A715 core available inside the Dimensity 8350. So in terms of both performance and efficiency, the Dimensity 8450 has a much-improved CPU.

Now, coming to the 15-minute CPU Throttling Test, the Dimensity 8450 throttled to 77% of its maximum performance while the Dimensity 8350 stood at 85%. On paper, the Dimensity 8350 looks slightly better, however, if you take a close look at the graph, both processors have done an impressive job at handling all-core CPU workloads under heavy stress. It means that you are going to get a responsive experience on both chipsets even when all CPU cores are engaged at their maximum clock speeds.

Next, we ran the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress test to test the GPU on both processors. In this test, the Dimensity 8450 performed much better. The Arm Mali-G720 MC7 inside the Dimensity 8450 got the best score of 4,004 points and the lowest score of 2,854 with a great stability of 71.3%.
Meanwhile, the Dimensity 8350 received the best score of 3,252 and the lowest score of 1,048 with a dismal stability of 32.2%. It means that while the Dimensity 8450 is around 23% faster in graphics-intensive tasks, it's also much more stable in sustained performance. For prolonged gaming sessions, the Dimensity 8450 is a much better pick than the 8350.

Moving to the 3DMark Solar Bay test which evaluates ray-tracing performance, here too, the Dimensity 8450 leads by a hefty margin. It scored 6,589 with 25.05FPS whereas the Dimensity 8350 got 4,932 with 18.75FPS. Overall, the Dimensity 8450 is 33% faster than the Dimensity 8450 in ray-traced games.

In the intensive 3DMark Steel Nomad Light test, the Dimensity 8450 scored 1,472 and the Dimensity 8350 achieved 1,242 points. In this GPU test as well, the Dimensity 8450 posts over 18% faster graphics performance. All in all, it's clear that the Dimensity 8450 is equipped with a stellar GPU that delivers on both performance and stability.

In the Speedometer 3.0 benchmark which evaluates the processor on web responsiveness and fluidity, the Dimensity 8450 scored 13.9 points while the Dimensity 8350 got 9.66 points. In terms of web performance, the Dimensity 8450 is 44% faster which is quite huge. So, if you use web-heavy applications, I would certainly recommend the Dimensity 8450.

Verdict
To sum up, the Dimensity 8450 is a great upper mid-range chipset, and beats the Dimensity 8350 by a substantial margin. In multi-core CPU performance, the Dimensity 8450 leads by a whopping 45% and the GPU is around 23% faster while maintaining solid thermal stability. I would definitely opt for the Dimensity 8450 as it brings the newer Cortex-A725 CPU core.
In fact, in my comparison between the Dimensity 8450 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, I found that the former comes quite close in some departments which is impressive. So, if you are a regular user or a gamer, the Dimensity 8450 is highly recommended in the upper mid-range segment.
