Right after the Google I/O 2026 ended, Google pushed the Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 update on eligible smartphones, and it adds some new UI elements to the mix. The update finally brings the much-awaited system-wide blur that was teased a few days ago, alongside a few new animation improvements and bug fixes.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 Gets New System-Wide Blur
Google is rolling out Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 with build number CP31.260508.005 to all supported Pixel smartphones from the Google Pixel 6 through Pixel 10. The update weighs around 550 MB and brings a system-wide blur, new animations and bug fixes.

The most noticeable improvement is the visual shift from opaque backgrounds on system menus to blurred backgrounds. This can be seen in the volume, widgets, app folders and power menus as part of Google's Material 3 Expressive design language.
Besides, the new update also includes a tiny new animation change when bringing down the Quick Settings menu. The animation during the first swipe is slightly more pronounced and the same is also true when opening the extended Quick Settings panel.

The Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 update also includes a host of bug fixes, including an issue where tapping on the date on At a Glance prompted to open the terminal. Other bugs, such as Wi-Fi unexpectedly disconnecting, crackling audio and the UI elements being cut off when apps are expanded to full screen, have all been fixed.
Besides, Google has also issued fixes for a bug where Home Screen widgets would disappear and become unavailable in the widget picker after a reboot. Similarly, another bug where the mobile data icon incorrectly remained active in Quick Settings after enabling Aeroplane Mode has also been fixed.
Users enrolled in the Android 17 Beta program can head over to Settings > System > Software updates and install Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 directly from there. Those feeling a little adventurous can also grab the update via Android Flash Tool. With Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 finally here, stable Android 17 features could roll out to the masses anytime soon. Stay tuned.
