Google has rolled out Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8, which has arrived about two weeks after the Android 17 QPR1 Beta 7 update brought fixes for Battery Share and Quick Settings. This latest build is once again focused entirely on bug fixes rather than new features, especially a major audio bug fix which was long overdue for Pixels.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 Update Changelog
The update carries the build number CP31.260623.010 and tackles a widely reported audio framework buffer management issue. This bug was causing loud, corrupted audio and static during media playback and while interacting with notifications.
Going by the sheer number of issue reports linked to this bug on Google's issue tracker, it appears to have affected a fairly large number of users, making this one of the more meaningful fixes to land in a QPR1 build so far.
Beyond that, Google has also fixed a problem where the Pixel Tablet's speaker dock would frequently disconnect or fail to connect altogether when docked. An NFC service regression that stopped certain NFC tags from reading data or opening URLs has also been resolved with the Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 update.
In addition, a bug where fingerprint authentication would occasionally fail to trigger when trying to unlock the device has also been fixed.
The Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 update is rolling out to all supported Pixel phones, from the Pixel 6 series onward. It's worth noting that this build still supports the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, unlike Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1, which dropped support for those older models.
With most of the API surface already locked in place since Beta 6, Google appears to be in cleanup mode with this release, ironing out remaining issues ahead of the stable release. The Android 17 QPR1 stable update is expected to roll out in September 2026 as part of Google's Feature Drop.
Users enrolled in the Android Beta Program can get the update by heading over to Settings -> System -> Software updates.
As always, do keep in mind that beta builds can still carry their own set of bugs, so it's worth weighing that before installing one on your primary phone.
Apart from that, although the Android 17 stable update was rolled out to eligible devices back in June 2026, the upcoming Pixel 11 series will be the first to run the update right out of the box. The next-generation flagship phones will launch at the Made by Google event scheduled for August 12, 2026, so all eyes are on that next.
