Good news for Apple Watch Series 9 owners. Following the unveiling of watchOS 27 at WWDC 2026, Apple has officially confirmed to tech publication 9to5Mac that its latest smartwatch OS will be supported on the Apple Watch Series 9.
Apple Watch Series 9 Remains Eligible for watchOS 27

The concern arises after Apple accidentally left out the Apple Watch Series 9 from the watchOS 27 eligible devices list. So, understandably, Apple Watch Series 9 users were worried about not receiving the latest update. Thankfully, that's not the case and was merely a genuine mistake on the Cupertino giant's part, as confirmed by the publication.
For those wondering, here's the full watchOS 27 eligible devices list for you to rest easy:
- Apple Watch Series 11
- Apple Watch Series 10
- Apple Watch Series 9
- Apple Watch Ultra 3
- Apple Watch Ultra 2
- Apple Watch SE (3rd generation)
The confirmation is particularly noteworthy because watchOS 27 introduces several new Apple Intelligence features, including the revamped Siri AI experience. While some AI capabilities will depend on eligible iOS 27 devices, Watch Series 9 users will still receive the latest watchOS update and its core features.
Powered by Apple Intelligence, Siri can now handle more natural conversations, provide better contextual responses and help users complete tasks more efficiently. Beyond Siri, watchOS 27 also introduces interface refinements, smarter widgets, health and fitness improvements and other quality-of-life upgrades.
Apple has already released the first watchOS 27 Developer Beta, while a Public Beta is expected next month. The stable update will likely roll out later this year alongside Apple's next-generation Apple Watch Series 12 lineup.
