Apple's much-anticipated foldable iPhone could arrive with a surprisingly competitive price tag, as per a new report. Turns out, this will be possible, thanks to a major shift in foldable hinge manufacturing costs.
Foldable iPhone could be priced similarly to Apple's regular flagships
According to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the average selling price of the foldable iPhone hinge is turning out to be "lower than expected." The analyst's latest report highlights that the hinge is historically one of the most expensive components of a foldable.
The reduced costs of manufacturing will not only ease Apple's expenditure but also strengthen the position of its hinge suppliers, who are reportedly benefiting from more favourable terms as Apple prepares for mass production.
Foldable flagships from Samsung, Huawei and others have typically launched at premium prices, often exceeding the $1,500 (approximately Rs 1,33,000) mark. However, with Apple's hinge costs reportedly going down, the brand may be able to introduce the foldable iPhone at a price point closer to its existing flagships.

For reference, the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at $1,099 (approximately Rs 97,500). So, we can expect the foldable iPhone to be priced around that mark or slightly higher at around $1,200 at most.
Apple has a history of entering new product categories only after the technology matures. By taking advantage of a more affordable and robust hinge, the Cupertino giant could position its foldable iPhone as a solid option in the niche market.
Besides, previous reports have also hinted at the foldable iPhone durability being top-tier, courtesy of a combination of titanium and aluminium. So, Apple compromising on the build quality while making it not too pricey is hopefully out of the window.
While the brand hasn't confirmed anything, as per leaks and reports, the foldable iPhone launch date is expected to be set for late 2026.
