Apple may be preparing its iPhone lineup for a major display upgrade. This upgrade could make future models feature brighter, long-lasting and power-efficient displays.
According to a new report from South Korean publication DealSite, Apple is in talks to adopt tandem OLED display tech for its future iPhones. This is said to be the same display tech that debuted on the latest iPad Pro.

Going by the latest information, LG Display is aggressively pitching its tandem OLED panels for the iPhone. The technology stacks two emission layers instead of one on a regular OLED. This allows room for significantly higher brightness, reduced power consumption and improved durability.
Apple already relies on these displays for the M4 iPad Pro, with LG supplying the bulk of the panels and Samsung handling the rest.
Bringing tandem OLED to the iPhone, however, won't be immediate. Apple typically follows a two-year development cycle and given the production complexities of stacked OLED, a 2028 debut is the earliest realistic timeline. Besides, Apple is also expected to evaluate both LG and Samsung as suppliers before committing.

If approved, the upgrade would give iPhones a major visual and efficiency edge over competitors. Smartphone makers like Samsung have so far focused tandem OLED efforts on larger displays such as tablets.
However, given that Honor's Magic 6 PSR Porsche smartphone already uses BOE's tandem OLED panel, more smartphones could join the party soon. So, there's also a high chance that Apple is late to the party. Only time will tell.
