Even though Apple's "Surprise and Shine" event is just a week away, talk about the iPhone Ultra has not died down. While there are many leaks and rumours about the brand's first foldable, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has revealed several details in an exclusive interview with Tom's Guide.
iPhone Ultra Will Feature MagSafe Charging and Almost Crease-Less Display
One of the major talking points about the iPhone Ultra in the last few months has been whether Apple's first foldable will come with built-in magnets for wireless charging. Gurman settles it plainly by saying that "MagSafe is there" and that everything he has heard indicates it is included on the foldable.
This is good news given the fact that the iPhone Ultra is expected to be just 4.5 to 4.8 mm thick when unfolded. However, we can't say this will indeed be the case for certain until the foldable launches.
On the display front, Gurman offered a more measured take on the iPhone Ultra creaseless display rumours. He says that while the crease is not entirely gone, its feel and look are comparable to Samsung's newest folding phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
However, Gurman adds that the hinge on the iPhone Ultra will be considerably more durable than the Galaxy foldables. This is in line with previous rumours, which suggested a liquid metal iPhone Ultra hinge.
According to Gurman, Apple was to make the foldable as durable as any other iPhone, or close to it and the company has spent considerable time on exactly that. On the iPhone Ultra specs front, Gurman confirmed a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch inner display, along with the latest Apple Pro chip (possibly A20 Pro) and Apple's newest in-house modem (possibly C2 5G modem).

Moving on to talking about the software, Gurman said that iOS 27 on the iPhone Ultra will behave like iPadOS. He reiterated his previous reports of iPad-like multitasking on iPhone Ultra and said that the foldable will bring iPad-like app layouts and side-by-side multitasking to the iPhone Ultra's inner display.
He also added that drag and drop will work between multiple on-screen apps, letting users move data directly from one app to another.

Lastly, touching down on iPhone Ultra delay reports, Gurman says he does not buy it. He says he would be very surprised if the foldable did not launch at the same time as the new iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
This aligns with recent production line reports, where it is said that Apple has ordered around 10 million iPhone Ultra units to be ready for launch, and IDC has since forecast more than 10 million shipments in the phone's first year of launch.
On pricing, Gurman repeated his earlier expectation of a $2,000-plus (approximately Rs 1,90,000) starting price for the iPhone Ultra. That said, we will know for sure on September 9, 2026, when everything gets confirmed. This will also be John Ternus's first event as Apple CEO after taking over from Tim Cook.
