Apple's highly anticipated foldable smartphone, the iPhone Fold, is rumoured to debut by the end of 2026. We have already seen countless leaks and rumours so far and all of them point to some significant upgrades with the brand's first-ever folding phone. Now, a new report points to an almost creaseless folding display for the smartphone.
iPhone Fold Could Adopt Dual-Layer UTG Design
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming iPhone Fold will stack two Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) or two Ultra Foldable Glass (UFG) layers on top of one another to minimise the display crease when unfolded. This dual-layer stacked design is said to position the display in the middle rather than directly on top of the hinge.

The biggest USP of this will be the reduced tension on the UTG when folded. This is something that the all-new Oppo Find N6 did with its folding phone to achieve an almost creaseless display. So, with the iPhone Fold also adopting a similar folding display structure, it could rival Oppo with a seamless and creaseless display experience.
Also, another key advantage of this design is its durability. By adopting dual-stacked glass layers, the overall rigidity and strength of the glass will also increase. While it will not be as strong and scratch-resistant as a regular smartphone display, it will be durable enough to handle accidental scratches and scuffs.

This falls in line with a recent iPhone Fold CAD renders leak, which talked about a more durable and crease-friendly display. The report also mentioned Apple adopting a self-healing display and a seamless hinge design for enhanced durability and rigidity even after multiple folds.
That said, these are early leaks and while most of them could turn out to be true eventually, it is best to take them with a grain of salt. Since Apple unveils new iPhones by the end of Q4, expect the iPhone Fold to also go official at the brand's Spring event this year.
