Apple is reportedly gearing up to deepen its manufacturing footprint in India with Foxconn, it's key production partner. Turns out, the brand really wants to scale up its AirPods production in the country.
Apple AirPods production could double in India
According to a report from The Economic Times, Foxconn's Kongara Kalan facility in Hyderabad is undergoing a major expansion. This will see the monthly AirPods production double from 100,000 units to 200,000 units. The ramp-up is part of a broader overhaul of five assembly lines, with some machinery being relocated from Foxconn's Vietnam operations to India.
Commercial production of AirPods began at the plant earlier this year, marking Apple's first local assembly of the popular wireless earbuds. The Hyderabad facility currently produces the latest AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3 models.

The factory, which employs around 2,000 workers, is expected to more than double its workforce to approximately 5,000 within the next eight months. Foxconn has reportedly already invested over Rs 3,000 crore in the site, with total investment expected to be around Rs 4,800 crore.
The expansion is proof of Apple's focus in the Indian market and how it wants to heavily align with the "Make in India" initiative. With the expansion focused at increasing the AirPods production in India, it's also clear that the country is not just an excellent market for iPhones, but its accessories as well.
