Wide-screen phones are becoming a real trend this year. Samsung launched the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8, Apple launched the iPhone Duo and last month, Huawei launched the Pura X View, a wide phone that doesn’t even fold. Now, another player, Coolpad wants to bring the wide-screen slab phone for budget buyers.

Coolpad's First Wide-Screen Slab Phone Reportedly Launching Soon

According to TechNetbook, Coolpad is working on a slab-style wide-screen phone, similar to the Huawei Pura X View. The information was reportedly shared by an official Coolpad retailer account.

The upcoming phone reportedly has a 6.3-inch LCD display with a 720p resolution. The key detail is its 16:10 aspect ratio. This makes the phone much wider and shorter than a regular smartphone, similar to a passport.

On the back, the smartphone will reportedly feature a horizontal, pill-shaped camera module and a textured back panel, which looks a lot like the Pura X View. However, the Coolpad phone has a thicker bottom bezel, since it comes with an LCD panel.

Under the hood, the phone is reportedly powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset. Interestingly, the phone is said to run DroiClaw Zhuge 3, an AI-focused operating system made by Shanghai Droi Technology.

It’s designed specifically for the wide display, and its core services are reportedly built using the Rust programming language for better security. That said, we don’t know much about its features yet. Details like RAM, battery and camera specs have not also been revealed yet.

The Coolpad wide-screen phone is expected to cost 999 Chinese yuan (approx. Rs 15,000) and could go on sale in China sometime in October 2026. Coolpad has not shared the phone’s name, official launch date and details yet.

As for India, there’s no word on a launch. Coolpad used to sell phones in India, but it hasn’t been very active here in recent years. So, an India launch seems unlikely for now. However, unlike the Pura X View, which is limited to China, Coolpad's wide-screen slab phone could be the first to launch globally.

Meanwhile, more brands are working on wide-slab phones. Oppo is reportedly working on the Reno X wide-screen slab phone. However, there is no word on that one yet.
