Google has introduced a new Android feature called "Android Halo", which essentially aims to make AI activity on smartphones transparent. Announced at the Google I/O 2026 tonight, the feature will show a subtle halo-like status indicator whenever an AI agent is actively working in the background.
Android Halo Adds a Visible Layer to Google's AI-Powered Future
According to Google, Android Halo will notify users when an AI system is processing tasks, running live sessions or interacting across apps. The feature will work closely with Gemini Spark, Google's new AI agent framework designed for multi-step actions and automation.

Android Halo is also meant to address privacy concerns around AI agents. Google reportedly plans to let users review recent AI activity through Android's Privacy Dashboard, including which apps an AI assistant accessed and when it was active.

Over the past year, Google has expanded Gemini with contextual overlays, live conversations and on-screen understanding. Halo now adds a visibility layer to those AI experiences instead of keeping them hidden in the background.
Google states that with the newly announced Gemini Intelligence, "Android Halo will offer additional capabilities." However, the tech giant has not announced an official Android Halo release date yet, but more details will be shared "later this year".
