Google is looking to supercharge its Chrome browser on Android with a nifty new AI feature. Chrome will soon take the help of Google's AI audio overviews, which first went live with NotebookLM back in 2024.
Spotted by X user Leopeva64, Google Chrome for Android is adding a new AI playback feature is being added to the existing "Read Aloud" functionality. This will allow users to convert long text-based webpages into bite-sized AI audio content for faster information assimilation.
But here's the fun part. Instead of being a direct audio summarisation, this new feature will convert the webpage into an interactive podcast, with two AI voices discussing the material.
Chrome for Android's Read Aloud feature will get "AI Audio overviews." This feature provides a conversational summary of webpage content, delivered by two AI voices discussing the material. Once live, users will be able to use the Listen to this page option from the 3-dots icon. There will be a new AI playback button live beside the existing playback speed control toggle, located at the bottom-left of the screen.
This, when live, can prove to be a very useful feature for users who prefer audio-based content more than reading. This is because, from what we noticed, AI playbacks are usually shorter compared to the standard playback option.
Additionally, this same feature was spotted recently by the folks at Android Authority. They were able to unearth strings of code added to the beta version of Chrome for Android. This proves that this feature is indeed in the works and is scheduled for a future rollout.

With that being said, this new feature is currently live for users in Chrome Canary for Android. So, we can expect Google to take its sweet time rolling this feature out to stable Chrome for Android users.
