Rumours about Google's Gemini analyzing videos have been circulating for a while now, and it seems they’ve just come true. This comes in addition to the fact that the AI model can already interpret, analyse and summarise YouTube videos (via link embeds) uploaded to it.
First spotted by 9to5Google, in addition to images and documents, users can now upload videos for the AI model to analyse. However, the feature wasn't live for us at the time of writing.

However, thanks to 9to5Google, as it is evident in the above images, Gemini can successfully not only summarise the contents within the video but also provide information about specific details mentioned within the uploaded clip.
For example, when the user asked about "what's happening in this video," Gemini was able to successfully interpret the fact that the user is interacting with a Google Nest Hub. It even provided the on-screen details that were visible on the Nest Hub, like the time and smart home control options. Similarly, it was also able to provide specific details when enquired about the same.
The publication also notes that the video upload feature on Gemini works the same way as the image and document upload functionality. After summoning Gemini, users will simply need to tap on the '+' icon at the bottom-left corner and select Gallery or Files from here, which will now display videos as well. For those that have received the functionality, a new Videos option is said to appear here.

The camera viewfinder on Gemini however, is not able to record videos as of now. So, the only way to get video files analysed is via the upload functionality.
With that said, we will learn more as the feature reaches a wider audience. And 9to5Google believes that both free and paid users will be able to use this feature. So, make sure you have the latest Google Gemini app installed on your Android and iOS devices, as the feature doesn't seem to work on the web.
