Google Translate has turned 20, and Google is celebrating the same by rolling out one of the most requested features. It's an AI-powered tool called Pronunciation Practice geared towards helping users learn how to pronounce words when learning a new language.
Google Translate Gets Real-Time Accent Correction
Google has highlighted in its recent announcement post that it's rolling out a brand-new AI-powered Pronunciation Tool in Google Translate. It can be found via a new Practice button situated at the bottom of the user interface. The feature offers a dedicated pronounce and listen mode specifically tailored for the user.

The standout feature here is the real-time feedback loop. The AI evaluates your accent and phonetic delivery and urges you to do better. In case you mispronounce a word or a syllable, the app offers visual phonetic correction.
When getting started, the tool asks you to select the desired language you want to learn, which is restricted to four at the moment. It then asks your proficiency in the language, followed by your goal. The tool then creates scenarios around your goals and takes you to a Dashboard section where you can start practising.

You can start a learning activity and will be introduced to two options – Listen and Roleplay. The former is pretty self-explanatory, usually found in apps like Duolingo. Roleplay is slightly different, where the app generates a conversation for you in which you can read the words presented on the screen to practice.
For its initial rollout, this tool is restricted to Android users located in the US and India, and it currently only supports practice for English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Hindi.
Beyond just this tool, Google has dropped some numbers detailing how big the service has become since its arrival back in 2006. Google also claims that the engine processes over one trillion words every single month, exceeding one billion active users every month. The brand also mentioned the Scroll and Translate Circle to Search feature update, which was recently rolled out.
