Last week, Huawei confirmed a Huawei Mate XT 2 launch event to unveil the brand's next-gen tri-fold. Now, ahead of that, the Huawei Mate XT 2 has entered pre-orders in China and the phone's design has been officially revealed.
Huawei Mate XT 2 Features a New Wing Fold Design
The biggest change in the Huawei Mate XT 2 compared to the first-gen Huawei Mate XT is its design. The upcoming tri-fold has adopted a redesigned opening and closing mechanism called the "Wing Fold" structure.
This design choice is similar to what we have seen on the Samsung Galaxy Z Tri-Fold, where both halves of the folding display close inward to protect the foldable display and offer an inner display at the top.
This is a meaningful upgrade in terms of durability over the first-gen model, as the new design keeps the inner folding display protected rather than exposing it. The separate outer cover screen on the Mate XT 2 will work like a regular slab phone and will come with support for 3D facial recognition.
Aside from the upgraded folding mechanism, Huawei says it has prioritised symmetry in the design for more balanced weight distribution when the Mate XT 2 is unfolded. The company claims the phone measures just 3.5mm at its thinnest unfolded section and both the hinge and the screens have been reinforced for better impact resistance.

Huawei Mate XT 2 Will Come with a Privacy Display
Huawei has also opened pre-orders for the Mate XT 2 and the tri-fold will come in four configurations: 16 GB of RAM, a privacy display and stylus support. Here is what all four variants will look like:
- 16 GB + 512 GB
- 16 GB + 1 TB
- 16 GB + 1 TB with a privacy display
- 16 GB + 2 TB with a privacy display and a bundled stylus
The phone will come in Obsidian Black, White and Purple colour options, with the top-end 2 TB model being exclusive to the Purple colourway. The Huawei Mate XT 2 is currently up for pre-order and the phone will ship before October 31, 2026.
