Oppo has announced that it will be partnering with Volkswagen, the German auto giant, to license Oppo's 5G and other cellular patents to the group. This means that Volkswagen will use Oppo's connected tech to enhance the user experience of its always connected vehicles, globally.
Oppo CEO Pete Lau confirmed the collaboration with the German carmaker via an X post. Lau further commented that this bilateral patent licensing agreement will greatly enhance the technology and user experience of always connected vehicles.
The partnership with OPPO is an example of efficient, respectful, business focused collaboration in the space of licensing of Standard Essential Patents.

Oppo says that this collaboration reflects the firm's commitment to cellular technology beyond smartphones. The company also says that its 5G SEPs (Standard Essential Patents) are distributed in over 40 countries globally, ranking 8th in 5G patents.

The Chinese firm also says it has filed over 1,13,000 patents and has more than 62,000 granted globally. This partnership could improve internet access in cars and enhance OTA updates, Telematics, and V2X communication. This could not only contribute to the betterment of always-connected features but also safety.
