Summary

  • Galaxy S26 Edge could be even slimmer than the S25 Edge while featuring a larger silicon carbon battery.
  • The Galaxy S26 Ultra may also adopt the new battery tech and see an upgrade to charging speeds.
  • Both phones are expected to launch early next year, though exact timelines remain unconfirmed.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is just 5.8mm thick, making it one of the slimmest slab phones in the market. Now, a new leak suggests the Galaxy S26 Edge could be slimmer while packing a larger battery.

According to X user @UniverseIce, the Galaxy S26 Edge could benefit from "a new battery material technology," likely referring to silicon carbon batteries.

For those unaware, the Galaxy S25 Edge features a 3,900mAh battery while packing a thinness of 5.8mm. While the leak does not directly disclose the Galaxy S26 Edge's battery capacity and slimness, we expect it to surpass the 4,000mAh barrier. A 4,300mAh battery would be really sweet.

Moreover, silicon carbon batteries use a silicon carbon composite anode instead of the Graphite anode in Lithium-ion batteries. Silicon has a much higher energy density, allowing the battery to store more charge without increasing its physical size. This advancement helps smartphones stay slim while still offering larger battery capacities.

A potential increase in the charging speed of the Galaxy S26 Ultra could also be on the cards. As a result, Samsung will upgrade the 45W charging speeds it has been offering for more than five years to a higher number. A bump to 65W or 80W would be ideal and help charge the S26 Ultra sooner.

Since the Galaxy S26 Edge could receive a battery upgrade with newer materials, we see no reason for the S26 Ultra to be excluded. The higher charging speeds could help counter the increase in the battery capacity. Very early rumours suggest a bump to 5,500mAh from 5,000mAh, but take them with a grain of salt.

Considering the Samsung Galaxy S25 series came out in January this year, the Galaxy S26 series could be slated for launch around the same time in 2026. The Galaxy S26 Edge could launch much later, sometime in April next year. The leaks and renders should start pouring in as we inch closer to launch, so stay tuned!
