When it comes to smart automobile infotainment system, the biggest players in the market currently are Google's Android Auto and Apple's CarPlay. However, looks like Samsung is gearing to take on the market giants with its in-house platform, Auto DeX.
First outed by X user Galaxy Techie, Samsung's Auto DeX seems to share the same codebase as the existing Android Auto module. However, it will most likely be inspired by Samsung's One UI mobile operating system and feature a user interface that's optimised for cars. It could offer the same smartphone apps and features mirroring abilities just like its Google and Apple counterparts.
Here's a FIRST LOOK at Samsung's 'Auto DeX', supporting 8500+ car models of 120+ brands. The great news is, even if your car doesn't support it or you don't have a car, you can use it with some tricks. The aim here is to take the everyday infotainment system and supercharge it with smart navigation as well as accessibility capabilities. Interestingly, even though Auto DeX is not official yet, it seems like Samsung's car module already supports over 8500 car models from more than 120 brands.
Additionally, one of the key USPs of Auto DeX will reportedly arrive in the form of cross-device support. This means that users will still be able to use Auto DeX on their smartphone even if their cars are unsupported and vice versa.
However, this is not going to be a straightforward feature, as the tipster says that it will require "some tricks" to get this feature up and running. Also, from the added image, it is evident that Auto DeX is not bringing a fresh new UI overhaul. It will emulate the recognisable Android Auto module with a bottom taskbar for recently used apps and a left-aligned sidebar for driver access.
On the right-hand-side, the top section will display the Now Brief report and will contain a seemingly large media playback module at the bottom. Apart from this, the sidebar can also contain several shortcut options like maps, phone, messages and the app drawer.
This is the first time Samsung's Android Auto module has surfaced. So, it will be interesting to see what else the internet has to offer in terms of Auto DeX leaks and rumours in the coming days.
