On the heels of the iOS 26 announcement, Google has confirmed that the Android 16 stable release is happening on June 10, 2025. The latest Android update will reach all compatible Pixel phones and other devices today.
The confirmation comes from the official Android Developers X account. The X post reads, "It's almost time for the Android 16 final release! See you back here tomorrow." Tomorrow here means June 10, as the post was sent out on June 9, US time. The new Android update is releasing earlier than usual, after several rounds of beta testing over the last six months.

Now, you might be buzzing with excitement after reading this. If you are a Pixel user, you might be giddy thinking you will get to use the sweet Material 3 Expressive design. Well, sorry to put a damper on your excitement, but the Android 16 stable release isn’t coming with the new interface changes.
Google only recently started testing the Android 16 QPR1 build with the Material 3 Expressive UI. So, it will take the company some time to iron out bugs and refine the UI elements before rolling out the latest design to the public in Fall 2025. For now, here is a list of all the exciting Android 16 features you can try out in the stable build:
- Live updates, similar to the live activities feature on iOS
- Advanced Protection mode to enhance the security and privacy of your phone
- Health Connect is being updated to support select health records
- Embedded photo picker for third-party apps
- Bluetooth audio sharing to connect multiple Bluetooth headphones at once
- Notification Cooldown reduces the alert volume for continuous notifications in a short time
- Android 16 replaces Do Not Disturb with (Focus) modes
In addition, there are several minor Android 16 features and improvements that you can learn about in our guide to get up to speed ahead of the official release.
Oh, and for those with a sweet tooth, the dessert codename for Android 16 is Baklava. Google does not use dessert names officially anymore, though, so the latest release is simply called Android 16.
That said, I was most excited for the Material 3 Expressive design, but I believe we all will have to wait a few more months to receive it. We will be back with more Android 16 coverage later in the day when the stable update drops. So, stay tuned for more information.
