Summary

  • WhatsApp beta for Android (2.25.20.3) adds option to post status updates via share sheet.
  • Users can now post images and videos from WhatsApp or other apps through the share sheet itself.
  • To do so, when sharing content, users can simply tap on a new "My Status" option in the share sheet.

WhatsApp has rolled out a new beta update for Android users which brings a nifty little feature. The latest update brings the ability to create status updates on the platform straight from Android's share sheet.

Spotted by WABetaInfo, the feature has been added in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.20.3 build. Using this feature, users will be able to share photos and videos from not just WhatsApp but other apps as well to their status.

While we don't have the feature yet on our beta version, going by the provided screenshot, we can see that there is a new "My Status" option in the Android share sheet. Tapping on this option is said to open the WhatsApp status editor right away, where users can add text, emojis and do more with the post before publishing it.

Currently, users have to download the media to their devices and navigate to the WhatsApp Updates tab to be able to post it on their status. However, with this new feature, all that hassle has been cut down to a one-tap process of sorts. So, neither do users have to download the media permanently to their devices, nor do they have to go through multiple steps to reach the status editor.

"This streamlined approach is ideal for casual sharing, where speed and convenience are more important than archiving the content," WABetaInfo notes.

The feature is currently available to some beta testers and is said to roll out to more users in the coming weeks. We are also expecting to hear of a public release soon. Besides, iOS WhatsApp users can also expect to get the feature.
