Last year, WhatsApp finally introduced the ability to mention entire groups on status updates. Now, the platform is taking it a step further by developing a feature that lets users create and share status updates directly within group chats.
First spotted by WABetaInfo, the new WhatsApp feature has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.20.6 build. Later on, the feature is said to have also made an appearance on the iOS WhatsApp beta 25.19.10.76 version.

Earlier versions allowed users to mention a group within a status to notify all its members, including even those restricted by privacy settings. Now, those mentioned could re-share the status to their contacts, even keeping the original creator anonymous.
The upcoming feature streamlines this by providing a "Add group status" option right in the group chat info screen. Here, users will be able to tap on it to select media, text, music and anything they can share to their personal statuses.
Additionally, WhatsApp group status updates will be visible only to the group’s members, regardless of whether the contacts are saved. Moreover, these status updates will be end-to-end encrypted to ensure that the content shared stays within the group.
However, do note the new feature is currently in development and still not out for beta testers on Android and iOS yet. Do stay tuned to this space, as we'll update you once it starts rolling out.
