Want to change Siri's voice on your iPhone? Siri's default voice isn't for everyone, and the good news is there are ways to customise it with some new additions that were added recently. Beyond just picking male or female, you can choose from a range of languages, adjust the region and even fine-tune how Siri speaks. If you want to learn the same, keep reading as we discuss how to customise the Siri voice on an iPhone.
How to Customise Siri Voice on iPhone
Over the years, Apple has added more options to let users customise Siri's voice while expanding support for the digital assistant to several regional languages. I have also had my fair share of issues with Siri, and here is how I change its voice on my iPhone Air.
Adjust Siri's Pace and Expressivity (iOS 27 or Newer)
iOS 27 introduced the new Siri AI that is more expressive and conversational. Apple also expanded its voice customisation by allowing users to adjust its Pace and Expressivity, which is one of my favourite iOS 27 features. Here is how it works.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and head to Siri.
- Here, tap on Voice and adjust the Pace slider to control how fast Siri speaks.
- Now, drag the Expressivity slider leftwards or rightwards to control how much personality comes through in its tone.
- Tap on the checkmark at the top right to confirm changes.

These settings carry over to Siri's voice in Maps and Safari as well. Note that Pace and Expressivity are currently available only on the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The feature recently went live with the latest iOS 27 developer beta 3 update.
Customise Siri's Accent and Gender
Starting with the basic customisation, where you can change Siri's voice and pick between a male or female option, as well as try out different accents. It works on all Apple iPhones.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri (on iOS 26 or older versions).
- Here, select Voice.
- Now you can pick between different Siri voices as well as accents under the "Variations" section.

Siri plays a short sample for each option before you confirm, so it is worth trying out a few before settling on one.
Change Siri Region or Language
In case Siri has a difficult time understanding you or not speaking in your native language, then you will need to change its current region on your iPhone.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri (on iOS 26 or older versions).
- Here, tap on Language.
- Select a language from the list and go back to confirm.

The language you pick here determines which accents appear under Siri Voice, since the two are linked. Switching languages also resets your Hey Siri voice recognition, so you will need to run through the training setup again.
Siri Voice Not Changing or Working? Try Out These Troubleshooting Methods
In case you are running into issues while trying to customise the Siri voice on your iPhone, then you can try out these troubleshooting methods that I have sourced from different forums and online blogs.
- Restart your iPhone: A quick iPhone restart can clear most temporary glitches, including a voice change that isn't sticking after you save it. You can simply switch off your iPhone and turn it on again.
- Check the mute switch and volume: If Siri seems silent after a voice change, make sure the mute switch is off and try pressing the volume buttons while Siri is active.
- Enable Prefer Spoken Responses: Go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Siri Responses and make sure Prefer Spoken Responses is selected; otherwise, Siri will reply in text only.
- Toggle Hey Siri off and back on: Go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, turn off Listen for "Hey Siri", wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. This forces the new voice settings to reload.
- Check your internet connection: New Siri voices need to be downloaded before they can be used. If the voice customisation is not applied, try resetting network settings on your iPhone.
- Update iOS: Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install any pending updates. Voice-related bugs are often patched in minor iOS releases.
- Reset All Settings: If nothing else works, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings. This restores system settings to default without deleting any personal data.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can Siri's voice be changed independently on each Apple device?
The Siri voice setting applies per device, so you can have a different voice on your iPhone than on your iPad or Mac.
Q. Does changing Siri's language change the available voices?
Yes. The accent options available under 'Siri Voice' are tied to whichever language is selected, so switching languages will change what appears in the 'Variety' list.
Q. Why can't I access the Pace and Expressivity sliders in iOS 27?
These sliders require the A19 Pro chip and at least 12GB of RAM. Right now, that means iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max only. On any other device, the sliders will not appear in Settings.
Q. Can Siri understand Hindi or other Indian languages?
Yes. When your language is set to English (India), Siri can understand English mixed with Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, or Punjabi in the same request.
This is everything we have on how to customise the Siri voice on an iPhone. I hope you find the above customisation options helpful and were able to find the necessary solution to solve your issue. I don't often engage with Siri, but since the iOS 27 update, it feels better than Google's Gemini AI.
