Whether you are scrolling videos or texting someone at night, your iPhone's brightness can feel like a flashbang to your face. Even when you have pushed the brightness slider to the lowest, it can still feel overwhelming at times. But there are some common and some lesser-known ways that can fix this issue. So, keep reading as we discuss how to make the brightness even lower your iPhone in this guide.
How to Make iPhone Brightness Even Lower
Some iPhones, like the iPhone 15 Pro, 16 Pro, as well as the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro, come with LTPO displays that can turn down the brightness to 2 nits only. But even that could feel too bright in dark environments. That is why I looked up multiple blogs, Reddit threads, and Apple forums and found out some working methods to turn down the brightness on an iPhone even further. Let's take a look at them.
Turn on iPhone's Dark Mode
This is an obvious one, but oftentimes, this is the one that turns out to be the most useful. Apple iPhones support dark mode, which turns UI elements black, making the display easier on the eyes at night. Dark mode is also natively supported on most of your favourite apps, too. Here's how to enable it on iPhones.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Display & Brightness > Dark.
- Alternatively, you can launch the Control Centre by swiping down from the right side.
- Here, select Dark mode.

The Control Centre method is the easiest since you can disable dark mode when not in use.
Enable Night Shift on your iPhone
Night Shift does not lower brightness on your iPhone, but it shifts the display to warmer tones by reducing blue light. This reduces strain and fatigue on your eyes when viewing your iPhone's display at night or in low-light environments. This is how you can enable it.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Display & Brightness > Night Shift.

- Here, turn on the toggle for Manually Enable Until Tomorrow.

- This will sync Night Shift with the current time and automatically turn it off in the morning.
- You can use the slider in the Night Shift menu to adjust the warm colour tone of the screen.
Set up Screen Zoom Settings to Lower iPhone Brightness
Another great trick is to use the Zoom accessibility feature. It has an option to add a low-light filter over the entire display, which can make brightness even lower on the iPhone. It is a really useful method that I often use on my iPhone Air before going to bed, and here's how it works.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Accessibility > Zoom.

- Go to Zoom Region and select Full Screen Zoom.

- Now navigate to Zoom Filter and pick Low Light.

- Then, go to Zoom Controller and open Double-Tap.
- Here, select Zoom In/Out.

- Finally, turn on the Zoom toggle at the top.

- Everything will be zoomed in with a dark overlay on top.
- You can double tap with three fingers to zoom out and use your iPhone normally.
To turn the Low Light filter off, go back to Settings > Accessibility > Zoom and toggle it off, or use the Accessibility Shortcut below for quicker access.
Make Brightness Even Lower Using White Point Settings on iPhone
This is the most suggested method I found when searching for how to make brightness even lower on iPhones. Reduce White Point works differently from the regular brightness control. Instead of just lowering the backlight, it softens the brightest pixels on the screen, toning down harsh whites and intense colours to give a dimmer, gentler display.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Accessibility > Display & Text Size.

- Here, turn on the Reduce White Point toggle and the screen will instantly get dimmer.

- You can drag the slider to 100 to further lower the screen brightness on the iPhone.
Do note that turning the slider to 100 and lowering the screen brightness can make it difficult to see the display. To turn off White Point, head back to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and disable it.
Use Shortcuts Automation for Lower iPhone Brightness
I have also found a unique trick to quickly toggle Zoom or Reduce White Point on iPhones without even opening the Settings app. All you need to do is set up a shortcut in the Accessibility menu for either of these options. It is very easy to set up in a few seconds.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut.
- Here, pick either Zoom or Reduce White Point.

- Once selected, you can enable or disable them by triple-pressing the Side button on your iPhone.
Note: This will disable the emergency SOS when pressing the side key 3 times.
iPhone Display Still Too Bright? Try These Troubleshooting Methods to Lower Brightness
All of the methods I have explained above should work on all iOS 26-eligible iPhones, as well as older devices, too. But if, for some reason, you are running into issues, then try these troubleshooting tips to see if they help to solve your problem.
- Restart Your iPhone: Sometimes, features like Reduce White Point or the Zoom Low Light filter may not work properly due to a minor software glitch. Restarting your iPhone can fix this issue. To do this, simply switch off your iPhone and turn it back on again.
- Turn Off Auto-Brightness: Auto-Brightness can override your manual brightness settings and make the screen brighter than you want. To turn it off, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and toggle off Auto-Brightness.
- Disable Attention Aware Features: Your iPhone can automatically increase the brightness when it detects you are looking at the screen. To stop this, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and toggle off Attention Aware Features.
- Check True Tone: True Tone adjusts the display's colour and intensity based on ambient lighting, which can sometimes make the screen appear brighter than you want it to be. To turn it off, go to Settings > Display & Brightness and toggle off True Tone.
- Update iOS: A bug in an older iOS version could be preventing brightness settings from working correctly. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install any new available updates.
- Reset All Settings: If nothing else works, resetting your iPhone settings could fix brightness-related issues without deleting your data. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings, then set up your brightness preferences again from scratch.
That's all we have on how to make brightness even lower on your iPhone. Even though the default brightness on the iPhone can get quite low, these methods should help you push the brightness even further and have a comfortable viewing experience when using the phone at night. This was a very interesting guide for me to write since I already use a couple of these methods myself. But I hope you found it useful too.
