Following recent reports about Nothing OS 5.0 closed beta testing programmes, Nothing has officially dropped the first public teaser for Nothing OS 5.0. The update is expected to be based on Android 17 and could bring new features to supported Nothing and CMF smartphones.
Nothing has shared a new post on its X account with the caption "Updating...". The teaser features a short video animation showcasing the Glyph Matrix design that the brand adopted on the Nothing Phone (3) and Phone (4a) Pro.

The animation cycles through a variety of Dot Matrix graphics. The clip kicks off with a pointing hand cursor and transitions to a crescent moon, a thunderbolt, an oval shape, a water droplet, a sun graphic and a swirling vortex symbol, before transitioning into a hand counting from one to five and ending with a "5" icon.
While users have pointed out the possibility that this number hints at a potential Nothing Phone (5), we believe the timing is pretty apt for it to be a Nothing OS 5.0 teaser. The release is likely to be based on Android 17.
While Nothing is keeping the exact meaning behind these symbols under wraps, they could point to upcoming AI features, new widgets or UI enhancements. For example, the hand cursor may be hinting at better multitasking capabilities or an enhanced desktop mode, which is one of the core Android 17 features and improvements.
With the promo officially underway, Nothing is expected to reveal more concrete details regarding the new interface, a full feature list, and beta availability for eligible Nothing smartphones in the coming weeks. While the release date is currently unknown, Nothing OS 5.0 is expected to arrive by the end of 2026.
