Summary

  • Motorola Edge 70 Pro uses a much larger 6,500mAh SiC battery with faster 90W fast charging.
  • Edge 70 Pro is powered by the more capable Dimensity 8500 Extreme chipset with up to 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage.
  • Both phones feature dual 50 MP rear cameras, but the standard Edge 70 is slimmer at 5.99 mm and boasts a flat display.

Motorola has expanded its Edge 70 series by launching the Edge 70 Pro, a thin smartphone that sits above the Edge 70 and Edge 70 Fusion. While the Pro model naturally commands a higher price tag with its beefed-up specifications, the standard Edge 70 could still suit a lot of people better. If you're torn between going "Pro" or sticking to the base model, you've arrived at the right guide. Here's a breakdown of what exactly separates the Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Edge 70.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Edge 70: Design

  • The Edge 70 Pro and Edge 70 look pretty similar from the back, with the camera array dissolving with the back panel
  • Motorola's Edge 70 Pro is slightly heavier at 190 grams and thicker at 6.99mm, versus 159 grams and 5.99mm on the Edge 70

Both the Motorola Edge 70 Pro and the Motorola Edge 70 feature the signature Motorola back design, where the back panel blends into the squircle camera module at the top left. The main difference is in the front, where the Edge 70 Pro features a curved display, whereas the standard Edge 70 boasts a flat panel.

One of Edge 70's selling points is its super slim design, with the chassis measuring just 5.99 mm. It's also much lighter at 159 grams compared to the Edge 70 Pro, which is both bulky at 190 grams and thick at 6.99 mm.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Edge 70: Display

  • The Motorola Edge 70 Pro has a slightly bigger display at 6.8 inches and a higher 144 Hz refresh rate
  • It is also much brighter with a peak brightness of 5,600 nits, and slightly pixel-dense at 450 ppi

The Edge 70 Pro boasts a slightly larger 6.8-inch AMOLED unit, whereas the one on the Edge 70 is 6.7 inches. The Pro's display has a 144 Hz refresh rate (120 Hz on the Edge 70) and is much brighter at 5,600 nits peak brightness (4,500 nits on the Edge 70). The Pro also gets a faster 360 Hz touch sampling rate for faster touch response, making it more appealing for gamers.

Besides the slightly more pixel-dense display, the Edge 70 Pro also has slimmer bezels, helping it reach a screen-to-body ratio of 96.8%. The Edge 70 has a screen-to-body ratio of 94.6%. Both are HDR10+-certified displays with Pantone Validated Colours.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Edge 70: Processor

  • Motorola Edge 70 Pro features much faster Dimensity 8500 silicon, outperforming the standard Edge 70
  • This makes the Pro capable of handling extreme multitasking and gaming at the highest settings without breaking a sweat
  • The Pro also gets better, faster UFS 4.1 storage compared to the uMCP storage on the standard Edge 70

Unlike the standard Edge 70, which uses a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, Motorola has opted for a recent Dimensity 8500 chipset on the Edge 70 Pro. It's the same processor found on the Poco X8 Pro, and it boasts excellent near-flagship-grade performance for the price.

For starters, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 scored 1,077,092 points in our AnTuTu testing, but the Dimensity 8500 is capable of scoring more than double that at around 2,200,000, making it the better choice for multitasking, gaming and running heavy applications. The difference in performance will also be noticeable when transferring files, as the Edge 70 Pro uses the latest UFS 4.1 storage, while the non-Pro boasts uMCP storage.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Edge 70: Software

  • Both the smartphones come with Android 16 out-of-the-box with Hello UI on top
  • Hello UI packs a host of AI features, from photo editing to built-in Moto AI powered by assistants

Software-wise, both the Edge 70 Pro and Edge 70 come with Android 16 out of the box with Hello UI layered on top. Motorola promises three years of OS updates and five years of total security patches for both. While there's no significant difference in the overall user experience between the two, Edge 70 Pro's better hardware means the overall software experience on it should be more fluid than the Edge 70.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Edge 70: Cameras

  • Both the Edge 70 Pro and Edge 70 feature the same dual-camera array with 50 MP main and 50 MP ultrawide
  • The main camera is Sony's LYT-710, alongside a 50 MP front-facing snapper for selfies

The phones are pretty much neck-and-neck in the camera department. The Edge 70 Pro uses 50 MP Sony LYT-710, which is the same sensor used in the Edge 70 and even Edge 70 Fusion. It's a 50 MP unit with f/1.8 aperture and a 1/1.56-inch sensor size.

However, Motorola does claim that the Edge 70 Pro should perform better in low-light scenarios, thanks to the improved post-processing on the Dimensity 8500 Extreme processor.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Edge 70: Battery

  • The Edge 70 features a massive 6,500mAh battery with 90W fast charging, easily lasting for the entire day and more
  • The standard Edge 70 sacrifices battery for better ergonomics with a 5.99 mm slimness and a 159-gram body (183-190 grams on the Pro)
  • Edge 70 Pro does miss out on the 15W wireless charging found on the non-Pro, supporting only wired reverse charging

One of the most drastic differences between the two is in their physical footprint and endurance. Following the most popular trend of 2026, Motorola Edge 70 Pro packs a massive 6,500mAh silicon-carbon cell into its chassis, complemented by a much faster 90W fast charging. To accommodate the larger battery, the Pro has a slightly heftier build (183-190 grams) with curved screen edges.

In contrast, the base Edge 70 prioritises ergonomics, as it's incredibly handy at just 5.9 mm with a flat display. This also means that it houses a much smaller 5,000mAh battery that charges at a much lower 68W charging speed. Therefore, while the Edge 70 Pro may last you for more than a day, the standard Edge 70 may need a top-up by the evening to keep going. However, the in-hand feel of the Edge 70 will be more premium.

Ultimately, the choice comes down to what you value the most in your daily driver. If you prioritise aesthetics, a lightweight pocket feel and a flat display, the Edge 70 is still a fantastic smartphone for standard use. However, if you're willing to spend slightly more for better performance, a larger battery, faster charging and a smoother, sharper display, the Motorola Edge 70 Pro is very well worth it.
