The Motorola Edge 70 Pro seems like a good camera phone in the midrange segment with its triple 50 MP lenses. However, it lacks a dedicated telephoto lens, which can be a deal breaker. Meanwhile, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is already the camera champ, boasting impressive specs that seem unbeatable on paper. But which is the better camera option? Let's find out in this Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro camera comparison.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: Main Camera Results
Starting with the main camera, the Motorola Edge 70 Pro and the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro both offer detailed images with their respective 50 MP sensors. But the real difference between the two is noticeable in the day and night camera samples.
Daytime Shots Comparison
Both phones are head-to-head when it comes to daytime photos. I took a few shots around the office, and the Edge 70 Pro's photos look more pleasing. They lean towards slightly saturated colours but tend to crush the shadows in the process. Nothing keeps everything close to natural, and the shadows retain ample details as well.
However, Motorola handles dynamic range incredibly well. In complex scenarios where you are shooting an outdoor subject from indoors, the Edge 70 Pro manages to keep plenty of details without blowing up the highlights. This is something I noticed that the Phone (4a) Pro struggles with.

Night Photos Comparison
During the night, Motorola clearly takes better images from its main camera. There are plenty of details in the shot, and the exposure is consistent between photos. This is due to its slightly larger f/1.8 aperture compared to Nothing's f/1.88. It is a minor difference, but it has an impact on the final image output.
As you can see, Nothing also takes good photos in low-light situations, preserving the natural look of the scene. I actually prefer it more than the saturated shots from Moto. Like you can see in the image of the auto rickshaw, which looks more realistic on Nothing compared to the one taken from the Edge 70 Pro.
But the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro also blows up the exposure from time to time, something that I also pointed out in my detailed Phone (4a) Pro review. Images don't carry the same amount of details either as they do on the Motorola phone.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: Ultrawide Camera Results
With a 50 MP lens, the Edge 70 Pro has a clear advantage over the measly 8 MP sensor provided in the Phone (4a) Pro. The results have a night-and-day difference, with the Motorola capturing detailed, mesmerising ultrawide images. It is using the Samsung JN5 sensor for its ultrawide, the same one seen on the Phone (4a) Pro's telephoto camera.
Motorola's ultrawide clearly outshines Nothing in low-light shots. I managed to capture some stunning images at Connaught Place at night with the Edge 70 Pro. On the other hand, the Phone (4a) Pro's ultrawide samples are just serviceable at best. So, if ultrawide matters to you, then the Motorola Edge 70 Pro is clearly the best camera mobile phone under Rs 40,000.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: Zoom and Periscope
This is where things get interesting. The Phone (4a) Pro features a dedicated periscope camera similar to the base Phone (4a). This lens provides 3.5x optical zoom, allowing users to get seriously close to the subject. The images are genuinely impressive at 7x, 10x, 20x, and even 30x. The phone supports 140x zoom, but that is just marketing talk since the results look very soft and lacking in detail.
The Edge 70 Pro's camera setup is a downgrade from the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, which had a telephoto camera. As a result, the software processing tries to catch up with Nothing's 3.5x optical zoom in close-up images. It delivers decent shots up to 5x, almost matching the quality of the Phone (4a) Pro's photos. But push it further, and it falls apart.

At this price, I feel like this is a major deal breaker, especially for me, and I would rather have the Phone (4a) Pro just for the telephoto alone.
Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: Selfie and Portrait Mode
Both phones have a 50 MP selfie camera that offers pretty close image quality. The Motorola Edge 70 Pro takes good-looking selfies in day and night conditions, with solid portrait mode and accurate skin tones. But it does soften up the face a little bit even when I disabled any beautification filters.
I think the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro did a better job with selfies since there were noticeably more details. Portrait mode was also good with better HDR, clean edge detection and balanced colour tones for the most part. But it struggles in low light. I would say if you took a lot of selfies to post on social media, then the Edge 70 Pro is a better pick due to its consistent results in comparison to the Nothing.

Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: Video Comparison
Videos are definitely better on the Motorola Edge 70 Pro thanks to its powerful MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Extreme processor. It can record videos in 4K resolution @ 60 FPS from all cameras. Including the ultrawide and the selfie camera too.
That is amazing, especially for people planning to do vlogging on their smartphone. Meanwhile, the Phone (4a) Pro can also record 4K videos but only from the main and periscope cameras. It is also limited to 4K @ 30 FPS due to its hardware.
Motorola Edge 70 Pro vs Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: Which One Has Better Cameras?
Both phones are very close to each other in the camera department as you might have learnt from this comparison. I think if you shoot a lot of zoom photography, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is the easy recommendation. The periscope lens is a genuine advantage that the Edge 70 Pro simply cannot match, and the main camera delivers accurate, natural results in both daylight and portraits.
But if you can do without a dedicated zoom lens, then the Motorola Edge 70 Pro comes out as the best camera mobile phone. Its dynamic range in daylight is genuinely impressive; the 50MP ultrawide is in a completely different league, and its videos are much better than what Nothing has to offer.
