  • In the Geekbench 6 CPU test, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 scored 1,015 in single-core and 2,882 in multi-core.
  • While the CPU and GPU performance are decent at best, with decent efficiency, the chipset showcases great stability.

Notes

We benchmarked the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 on the Moto G67 Power 5G.

Qualcomm's 7-series is meant to offer great performance while keeping the overall price in check, but there's another sub-category in the 7 series with the "s" moniker, which is even lighter on the pockets. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 was the first processor in the 7 series to use the s moniker, and if you've been wondering about how it performs, we put it through its paces by benchmarking the Moto G67 Power and here's how it performed.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 2: AnTuTu Score

AnTuTu Benchmark
Score
Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 AnTuTu Score
841,378
CPU
314,941
GPU
127,102
Memory
145,868
UX
253,467

Starting with the AnTuTu benchmarks, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 on the Moto G67 Power 5G achieved a respectable 841,378 points. The CPU scored 314,941 points, whereas the Adreno GPU stood at 127,102 points. While it falls short of the 1 million mark by quite a margin, it still delivers good performance for daily tasks and light gaming, especially considering its budget positioning.

Its overall performance is pretty close to the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset, which also scores in a similar ballpark. That said, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is an octa-core processor manufactured on Samsung's 4 nm node, similar to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. The core design includes 4x Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.4 GHz, and 4x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.95 GHz. GPU-wise, it features the Adreno 710 GPU.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 2: Geekbench Score

Multi-core
2,882

Exploring the CPU performance further with Geekbench, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 scores a respectable 1,015 points in single-core and 2,882 points in multi-core test. The performance suggests the four ARMv8.2 cores perform decently well, but not as well as the ARMv9 or v9.2-A cores found in its direct successor, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3.

The scores suggest that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 packs more than enough power to handle your daily social media and multitasking, but it significantly trails behind its successor, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. The multi-core score almost hits the 3,000 mark, suggesting the processor is capable of handling multiple apps decently well and keeping them in the background for longer.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 CPU Throttling Test

CPU Throttling Test

Maximum Score
220,978 GIPS
Average Score
190,041 GIPS
Minimum Score
174,572 GIPS
Throttling Percentage (Higher is better)
81%

Coming to the CPU throttling test, unlike its successor, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 exhibits thermal throttling under sustained load. The processor throttled to 81% of its maximum performance. The maximum score it achieved was 220,978 points, whereas the average and minimum scores were 190,041 and 174,572 GIPS, respectively.

This means that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 will dial down its performance under sustained load to manage the thermals. This may result in frame drops during long and intense gaming sessions, and the smartphone may become too hot to touch.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 2: 3DMark Score

98.8%

Now, to test the Adreno 710 GPU inside the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, we ran the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress test. In this test, the processor achieved a best loop score of 870 and the lowest loop score of 860, with an exceptional stability of 98.8%. While the peak graphical output is lower than newer generations, the high stability ensures that the gaming performance remains consistent without sudden frame drops, even if the overall frame rate is modest.

Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 Speedometer Score

Finally, in Speedometer, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 scored 7.66 points. This indicates that the processor is capable of handling standard web browsing, though it may not feel as snappy as devices scoring in the double digits.

Verdict

Summing up, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is an ageing but reliable workhorse. While its raw performance numbers in AnTuTu and Geekbench leave us with more to be desired and are clearly a step behind the Gen 3, it maintains high stability in gaming. The CPU throttling suggests it may struggle slightly more with heat dissipation under peak loads compared to newer iterations. Overall, though, if you find a 7s Gen 2-powered smartphone under Rs 15,000, you could go for it. However, the Dimensity 7400 is slightly better in the efficiency regard.
