Summary

  • Google is finally rolling out the Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3 build to Pixel 6 and above phones.
  • The update brings a vast list of bug fixes and stability improvements which were prominent in the previous build.
  • Eligible users can download the QPR2 Beta 3 update as part of Google's Android Beta Program.

Google is rolling out Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3 to eligible Pixel smartphones ahead of the stable rollout by the end of 2025. This new update is all about refining the Pixel UI experience ahead of a full-blown stable rollout.

Android 16 QPR2 Beta 3 has resolved some of the major bugs found with the previous build

With the new QPR2 Beta 3 update rolling out for Android 16-supported devices, the most common issue of Google Play System updates failing to install for some users now stand resolved. Also, the issue where home screen shortcuts appeared blank has also been fixed with the new beta build.

Moreover, issues like incorrect colouring for lockscreen Wallet icon, Adaptive charging 100% battery charge, inconsistent swipe-up gestures and the theme selector not working in the first go, have all now been fixed with the QPR2 Beta 3 update.

One of the major fixes that the new update from Google has rolled out is in the form of camera improvements. Pixel phones with ultra-wide and telephoto cameras were facing rainbow artifacts in their photos, especially in 50 MP shots. The QPR2 Beta 3 has thankfully addressed that issue.

Also, the new update will somewhat improve the battery life of Pixel phones since excessive CPU usage by the launcher has been fixed with this update. Smartphones like the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold will benefit the most from this.

Other than that, calls incorrectly routing to Bluetooth audio, Terminal app crashes due to UI font size change, inability to type special characters in the GUI terminal like `*`, `@`, or `#` and buggy and laggy UI animations in case of swiping lockscreen widgets and the notification shade together, have all been resolved.

Apart from this, minor UI and UX stutters like frozen screen, screen noise and unexpected device crashes and reboots have also been taken care of.

That said, the update is currently rolling out to supported Pixel phones enrolled in the Beta program, starting from the Pixel 6 all the way to the latest Pixel 10 lineup. Users enrolled to the Android Beta Program can download and install the latest Android 16 beta update on their smartphones right away.
