Apple is seemingly building an artificial intelligence-driven search engine that's designed to power Siri with real-time web results. This will finally pit Siri against competitors like OpenAI, Google and other emerging AI assistants.
According to Bloomberg, the project, internally called "World Knowledge Answers," is slated for release in the Spring of 2026. The tool will reportedly allow Siri to pull in live information from the web and generate summarised responses. This is similar to how Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews work, as well as OpenAI's ChatGPT work.

This will finally let Apple address a long-standing criticism that Siri lags behind others in delivering dynamic and context-rich answers. Beyond Siri, Apple is also exploring integration with Safari and the Spotlight search function on iPhone, which would make the AI system a core part of its ecosystem.
Bloomberg also reports that Apple has reached an agreement with Google to test its Gemini Large Language Model (LLM) for the project. The iPhone maker is also in discussions with other providers like Anthropic to analyse which technologies could support different aspects of its system.
News of the initiative gave Apple's stock a boost, with shares rising nearly 4% recently. The move highlights Apple's efforts to catch up with competitors like Microsoft, Google and OpenAI.
If Apple is successful with this, World Knowledge Answers could transform Siri from a basic assistant into a fully-fledged AI-powered search engine.
