Rumours about foldable iPhones have flooded the internet in the last few months, revealing the design, specifications and potential release date. So far, fans have relied entirely on supply chain speculations, but that changes today with a massive discovery that should put an end to the doubts about the existence of iPhone Fold.
iOS 27 Contains References to iPhone Fold
An X user, Sam Henri Gold, posted on X a screenshot with hardware references about the iPhone Fold buried inside the iOS 27 internal framework. The leaked code snippets show that Apple's CoreMotion framework now includes specific strings for tracking a phone's "foldState" and "angleDegrees".

These variables are technically engineered to measure the physical angle of a hinge mechanism and determine whether a display is currently open, closed or at a specific angle. The same variables are also built into macOS on MacBooks to wake the laptop or put it to sleep.
Besides, the tipster also posts a second screenshot in the thread revealing a newly-added MobileGesalt key. This is designed to scan the hardware architecture and return the total number of built-in screens on a single device. This tells us that Apple could be optimising iOS 27 to support dual-screen folding hardware.
By integrating these into the core OS, the software should dynamically adjust the UI, change app layouts and manage power distribution, depending on how far a user unfolds the iPhone Fold.
That said, Apple held WWDC 26 yesterday, revealing iOS 27 and all the new Siri AI features coming to iPhones in the future. While the brand did not confirm the arrival of a foldable phone, a recent leak from the supply chain revealed the iPhone Fold design in live images.
All in all, these concrete updates prove the software is pretty much ready to go for the iPhone Fold. As developer betas continue to roll out, more signs about the iPhone Fold should appear, so stay tuned.
