Apple has released the iOS 27 Developer Beta 5 update, bringing the latest batch of system fixes, improvements and feature additions to developers. This comes as a follow-up to the iOS 27 developer beta 4 update, which was seeded last month.
iOS 27 Developer Beta 5 Update: What's New?
The biggest change in the iOS 27 developer beta 5 build is updated icons for iPhones. Apple has refreshed the look of the Safari, Preview, Siri and Settings icons to bring a more cohesive Liquid Glass look to them.
This is in line with the Cupertino brand's push to make Liquid Glass a prominent design language across iOS. Apple introduced a new Liquid Glass slider in iOS 27, letting users adjust the intensity of transparency effects. The toggle allows switching between Liquid Glass looks, either for a full-blown transparent UI or a more translucent and frosted look.

Next, in the iOS 27 developer beta 5 update, Apple has added support for British English as one of Siri AI voices. For context, Siri AI is designed to work flawlessly with voice inputs.
Users can choose from multiple voice options with custom accents and tones. The new iOS update also carries forward the "Pace" and "Expressivity" voice control features of Siri AI from the iOS 27 developer beta 4 update.

Another notable addition to iOS 27 developer beta 5 is Spotlight Indexing. This was first spotted with the iOS 26.6 Release Candidate update and the primary intent here is to complete most of the data indexing in iOS 26.6 and iOS 27 beta versions for a smooth and hassle-free Spotlight experience when the stable iOS 27 update drops.
Aside from that, other notable additions to iOS 27 developer beta 5 include -
- Cellular network type no longer appears in Control Center on Wi-Fi
- 5G+ now appears for EE UK users
- New “Before Search” section in Search Settings for toggling app suggestion count, app shortcut suggestions, and recent searches. This affects Home Screen Search suggestions
- Siri animation is a bit less saturated

Rest, the iOS 27 developer beta 5 update also adds Automatic Downloads toggle inside the Apple TV app, ProRes log format support inside the Camera app and an option to enable or disable Connectivity Assist for individual Wi-Fi networks.
Lastly, Apple has carried forward the upgraded Visual Intelligence features from iOS 27 developer beta 4 by integrating Siri AI with the iPhone camera and bringing a dedicated Siri Mode to the Camera app. The update also brings support for passes inside Apple Wallet, a custom EQ toggle for AirPods and AI-generated Safari extensions.
Aside from these new additions, Apple has also fixed several bugs in iOS 27 and has improved the overall system stability. The current update will likely get seeded soon as the iOS 27 Public Beta 3, before the stable iOS 27 update ships later this year.
That said, the iOS 27 developer beta 5 update can be downloaded by heading over to Settings -> General -> Software Update -> Beta Updates on eligible iPhones. For more clarity, those who are at least on the iPhone 11 can get the update, although the more advanced AI features will be limited to Apple Intelligence eligible devices only.
