When Apple introduced Liquid Glass with iOS 26 last year, the reception was mixed. While many users appreciated the modern glassy aesthetic, others complained that it sometimes hurt readability. With iOS 27, Apple is addressing these concerns by making the Liquid Glass interface customisable and easier on the eyes. iOS 27 brings a dedicated Liquid Glass slider to adjust the transparency.
Here's How the Liquid Glass Slider Works in iOS 27
The new system-wide Liquid Glass slider allows users to adjust the level of transparency across the operating system on Apple iPhones running iOS 27. Users can choose to go from fully tinted to a totally clear view. Find out if you will get access to this slider by checking the iOS 27 eligible devices list.

Those who enjoy the original transparent aesthetic can keep it largely intact, while others can increase opacity for improved contrast and readability.
Apple is also changing its app icon design language entirely, with system icons now featuring more visual segregation of each layer. Additionally, the sidebars in apps now extend to the full edge of the respective app window, while retaining the app colour.

Additionally, the Dynamic Island is getting injected with more Liquid Glass aesthetic with iOS 27, as it brings the new Siri interface to the pill at the top of your iPhone.
Rather than moving away from Liquid Glass after just one year, Apple is refining the design language based on real-world feedback.
The updated Liquid Glass experience will be available as part of iOS 27, which releases in Fall later in 2026. Starting today, you can download the iOS 27 Developer Beta to test how the Liquid Glass slider works.
