Apple is unlikely to introduce any major visual changes to its Liquid Glass interface with the upcoming iOS 27 update, according to a new report. Instead, the brand is expected to refine the design gradually while focusing on other improvements such as performance upgrades and support for future hardware like a foldable iPhone.
iOS 27 may retain Liquid Glass design with only minor refinements
A report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman claims that Apple's latest internal builds of iOS 27 and macOS 27 do not show any major design overhaul to the Liquid Glass interface. The design language, first with iOS 26, is expected to remain largely unchanged in the next major OS update.
For those unaware, Liquid Glass debuted with iOS 26 as Apple's new unified design language across its operating systems, bringing translucent, glass-like interface elements and dynamic visual effects across UI components. This included app icons, toolbars, system panels and more.

The redesign was the result of years of development, which is why Apple is unlikely to significantly alter it so soon after its introduction. Instead, the brand is expected to refine the experience with gradual improvements over several releases.
While a full redesign appears unlikely, Apple could still introduce smaller visual adjustments and usability improvements. For example, as per the latest report, Apple had been working on a systemwide slider to adjust the intensity of the Liquid Glass effect, but couldn't implement it.
Well, iOS 27 may finally bring a systemwide slider like that and if it does, "the entire conversation around Liquid Glass could once again change dramatically."
iOS 27 features could support the upcoming foldable iPhone

As per the Bloomberg report, "One of the key upgrades in iOS 27 this year is a revamp to support a major new form factor: a foldable iPhone." Additionally, the report states that Apple's engineering teams are already working on new layouts and tweaks to iPhone apps/third-party apps.
That way, developers can choose to make the apps behave more like iPad software when the device is unfolded. Not to mention that the report also suggests there could be split-screen app support on the foldable iPhone. This falls in line with the Bloomberg report last week, which suggested that the upcoming iPhone Fold could feature iPad-like multitasking.
While Apple has not yet officially confirmed any details, the brand typically unveils new iOS versions at its annual WWDC developer conference. If the usual schedule holds, iOS 27 will likely be announced sometime around June 2026 and be released alongside the launch of the iPhone 18 series later in September.
