Early design and functionality details of Oppo's Android 17-based ColorOS 17 have surfaced. The new details suggest ColorOS 17 could yet again take many pages out of Apple's playbook, expanding Liquid Glass elements to more areas of the UI alongside embracing real-time lighting effects.
ColorOS 17 Will Feature a Big Visual Redesign
According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Oppo "C17" (ColorOS 17) will incorporate more fluid and deeply integrated visual language with a heavy addition of elements that mimic Apple's Liquid Glass design. This could establish a more unified experience with a translucent aesthetic across the OS's native layers.

To complement the addition of newly revamped elements, ColorOS is also focusing on geometry optimisations. The update is expected to bring more rounded corner designs, aligning icons, menus and app windows into a more cohesive layout, so it all looks seamless.
Beyond these changes, ColorOS 17 may also bring significant updates to the rendering engine. The system will reportedly employ higher light field rendering to deliver better depth and subtle, realistic shading across the UI for a more cohesive experience.
These rendering capabilities may also power the upcoming real-time lighting effects. These are expected to instantly respond to three UI areas, including Notification pop-ups, Fluid Cloud and Full-screen music playback on the lock screen interface. In fact, we've seen a glimpse of the latter in one of OxygenOS 17 leaks.
Oppo and OnePlus have been hard at work, testing these upcoming UIs, and with Android 17 features expected to arrive later this month, the OEMs should announce the rollout schedules for their smartphones very soon. That said, it's almost given at this point that the next generation of custom skins on these phones will steal the show.
