Summary

  • Apple's next-gen iPad Pro with M6 chip will reportedly feature vapour chamber cooling, a first for any iPad.
  • The new cooling system is to manage higher thermal loads from the powerful 2nm M6 chipset.
  • The iPad Pro M6 could get the new vapour chamber cooling system with the 2027 refresh.

Apple is reportedly preparing a major thermal upgrade for its next-generation iPad Pro. According to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the upcoming iPad Pro M6 powered by Apple's M6 chip could be the brand's first tablet to feature a vapour chamber cooling system.

iPad Pro M6 could finally move to vapour chamber from passive cooling

So far, the iPad Pro lineup has relied on passive heat dissipation methods such as graphite pads and copper plates, but the next model may adopt a more advanced vapour chamber. It only makes sense since this year, Apple has also provided the iPhone 17 series with a vapour chamber cooling system.

Looks like this upgrade from Apple is reportedly to accommodate the M6 processor's increased performance and thermal output. The new chipset, expected to be built on TSMC's second-generation 2nm process, will likely deliver a substantial performance upgrade.

For those unaware, a vapour chamber system works by spreading heat evenly across a thin, sealed metal layer that contains a small amount of liquid. As the liquid evaporates and recondenses, it quickly transfers heat away from the processor, keeping the performance and thermals consistent.

If implemented, this could further push the upcoming iPad Pro M6 as a flagship-grade monster for gaming, editing and all extensive tasks. While details remain scarce, the latest report suggests that the new vapour chamber system could debut with the new iPad Pro refresh that's expected in 2027.
