The iPhone 18 series has been a rumour mill favourite lately and now, fresh leaks featuring metal dummy units of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max have surfaced. While the overall design language remains familiar, the dummy units sourced from a hands-on YouTube video by Max Tech reveal significant physical changes. It looks like while Apple is maintaining its iconic silhouette for the Pro line, the internal hardware is forcing a "thicker" evolution.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Could Arrive with Massive Camera Overhaul

The most striking visual update is the reduction of the Dynamic Island. As per the leak, the dynamic island cutout is shrinking by roughly 25%, bringing its width down from over 20mm to approximately 15mm on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

While this isn't the full "punch-hole" design, it's a notable increase in usable screen area. This refinement also suggests Apple is successfully miniaturising its Face ID sensors while maintaining the functionality of the Dynamic Island.

At the back, the phone's camera system has also seen a substantial growth spurt. The dummy unit indicates a total thickness of 11.54mm at the camera plateau, up from 11.23mm on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Once the lenses are factored in, the total protrusion reaches 13.77mm.

The individual lenses have also grown in diameter to 16.5mm. This added bulk strongly suggests that Apple is moving toward larger sensors, potentially reaching a 1/1.28-inch main sensor size to compete with high-end rivals like the Vivo X300 Ultra and Oppo Find X9 Ultra. It could also mean that the Cupertino giant is perhaps bringing a more robust 5x optical zoom system.

Beyond the optics, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is also said to be marginally taller and wider than the current iPhone 17 Pro Max. There is also a slight increase in the phone's chassis thickness, fueling speculation that Apple may be including a larger battery to power the new camera hardware and more efficient display. Thanks to previous leaks, we already know that the iPhone 18 could feature Samsung's brightest OLED display.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to launch sometime in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro. We could also see the brand's first foldable iPhone Fold Ultra go official. While the Pro Max continues the trend of iterative refinement, the significant hardware shifts in the camera department suggest that Apple's primary focus for 2026 is maintaining its lead in mobile photography.
