Primate Labs has officially launched Geekbench 7, the newest major version of the widely used cross-platform benchmarking tool. The new version brings upgraded CPU and GPU benchmarking pipelines, introduces AI-focused workloads and also refreshes the performance baseline.

Geekbench 7 Launched: What's New?

The biggest upgrade with Geekbench 7 is how multi-core scores are now calculated. The process pipeline is now more true-to-life and only runs multi-threaded workloads when the device it represents genuinely uses multiple threads.

Earlier, with Geekbench 6, every workload ran in multi-threaded mode regardless of whether the real-world task it modelled actually behaved that way. Hence, Geekbench 7 scores are not directly comparable with any Geekbench 6 result. This includes benchmarks from the latest platforms like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor.

Geekbench 7 is using the AMD Ryzen 7 7700 processor as the new performance baseline. It normalises the points to 2,500 and is a direct successor to the Intel Core i7-12700, used for the Geekbench 6 baseline.

This change, Geekbench says, will not affect the practical nature of previous benchmarks, meaning that Geekbench 6 cross-platform scores remain valid. However, for updated results, the blog recommends re-running them on Geekbench 7 for updated results.

AI, Media and GPU Workloads on Geekbench 7

Apart from a reworked multi-core and performance baseline change, another key area where Geekbench 7 shines is in AI workloads. A new Whisper AI workload is added to help generate live captions during video playback. This will monitor the automatic subtitle feature of streaming platforms.

Additionally, Geekbench 7 will also include AV1 video encoding and Opus audio compression modelling to mimic, test and quantify on-device AI and real-world computational load. The benchmark also adds a Game Physics test built on the Jolt Physics engine used in popular video games, alongside an expanded Photo Editor workload for real-world edits. The updated Photo Library test now supports formats like JPEG XL and DNG.

As for GPU benchmark, Geekbench 7 can now cover real-time filter effects, ML-based image upscaling and video background blurring. There is a new image synthesis and editing test that covers RAW image processing, LUT-based video colour grading, path tracing and fluid simulation.

Nvidia CUDA is now a supported compute API alongside OpenCL, Vulkan and Metal. Rest, Geekbench 7 now offers an upgraded dataset to mimic real-world usage of files and documents. File Compression test now uses a more varied set of archives, the PDF Viewer test draws from a broader range of sources and Developer and Image processing workload use more assets across a wider mix of image formats

Geekbench 7 Availability and Pricing

The standard Geekbench 7 is available to download and install today for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux. It remains free for personal use. However, for those who want the Geekbench 7 Pro tool, it will cost $99 (approximately Rs 10,000). Primate Labs Store is offering a 20% discount on the base price till August 6, 2026.
