Google is officially sunsetting the Fitbit branding on its health app. As previous rumours suggested, the Google Health rebrand is finally rolling out to the masses with the Google Health 5.0 update, bringing a brand new icon, a cleaner user interface and highly customisable Android widgets.
Google Health 5.0 Update Brings a New Widget
After a long streak of rumours and leaks surrounding a major Fitbit rebrand to Google Health, the new Google Health app update is finally seeding to all Android smartphones via the Play Store. It's called Google Health version 5.0 and introduces a few new things right off the bat.

Starting with the most prominent feature, the introduction of a new Quick Access widget. The addition replaces the old circular steps Fitbit widget, and instead of a single data point, the new widget shows the entire focus section found at the top of the app's Today tab.
This should allow users to see all of their most important and personalised statistics directly on the Home screen, instead of opening the app. The size of the widget is 5x3, and it can display up to six health metrics at once. Those who prefer a cleaner look can easily remove elements like the Weekly cardio ring or shrink the widget from its default 5x3 size.

The UI also receives a quick navigation upgrade with the Google Health 5.0 update. Tapping the heart icon launches the full app, whereas tapping the right side allows you to jump into the Health Coach. That said, the rebrand also completely removes the Fitbit branding, as it will now be reserved for hardware products, like the Fitbit Air that launched recently.
That said, Google Health 5.0 is still in Public Preview inside the Fitbit app, and users will need to join the same to access the new user interface. The UI itself looks a little unfinished, so there's clearly a lot of work to be done before the full transition. Regardless, users can seamlessly switch between the old and new UIs in the app.
The rollout for Android smartphones began on May 19, 2026, and the app is expected to reach more phones by the end of May 26, 2026. Until then, stay tuned.
