Google Photos is one of the most feature-rich photo viewers/editors for Android and it has only gotten better in the last few years. As per the latest information, Google announced another update for the platform, bringing AI-powered touch-up tools.

Google Photos Gets Facial Touch-up Tools

Google has announced via its official blog post a new AI-powered Touch-up feature that can subtly enhance the skin texture, making your portraits look more desirable and cleaner. This differs from traditional social media filters that apply a uniform colour and perform smoothening, which may look quite unnatural.

As for how to feature works, when the user selects a face within Photos, a dedicated menu appears offering specific, targeted tweaks. These options include a Heal tool that can be used to quickly erase minor blemishes to achieve a smooth yet natural overall skin tone and texture.

Google claims that the system breaks down facial features individually, giving users the ability to brighten eyes, whiten teeth or add definition to eyebrows and lips in just a few seconds using AI.

However, the most interesting part about all this is that all the features will include adjustment sliders for when the model selects an aggressive preset. Users can then use the same to dial back on the intensity until the enhancement looks entirely natural.

The best part about this feature is that it will not be Pixel-exclusive, but will roll out to all Android smartphones with at least 4 GB RAM and running Android 9.0 Pie or above. That's pretty much all the existing Android smartphones of today. The feature is already gradually rolling out to Android phones.
