When Google announced the Pixel 10 series and all its new AI smarts, Magic Cue was among the most hyped features, and rightfully so. It felt like one of those few AI features which would be genuinely useful. However, the feature and its hype fell flat as it was limited to running in Google apps, but that could change very soon.

Pixel Magic Cue could Soon Become More Helpful

Reported first by Android Authority, the news comes from Google. The brand recently held the Developers conference, in which it discussed plans for extending Magic Cue suggestions to third-party apps. The brand demoed an example where Magic Cue successfully operated within a Snapchat conversation.

In fact, Kieron Quinn recently tweaked Firefox's app package to make Magic Cue work. He shared his findings with Android Authority about Magic Cue, where the prompt appears just above the navigation bar and can scan the display, offering intelligent shortcuts and doing what it's supposed to do.

In his demonstration, the Gemini Nano-based feature recognised the browsing context and prompted him to quickly resume a session he had previously left open on his desktop computer. However, the developer also noted that Firefox instantly killed the Magic Cue overlay because of the browser's privacy guidelines.

For those unaware, Magic Cue is one of the features that uses the onboard Gemini Nano model. It works completely on-device and offers helpful contextual suggestions, preventing users from remembering information or scrambling through the UI to find a piece of information like their plane tickets during calls and more.

That said, to reiterate, information about a potential rollout is scarce at the moment. Since adding support for Magic Cue in apps would require great coordination with app developers, the feature will pretty much gradually roll out from app to app over the next few months to years on Google phones. So, stay tuned!
