Take a Message was one of the best features Google introduced last year on the Pixel 10 series. It acts as a smart voicemail, helping users hear what a caller wants before answering or instead of calling back. While it's currently locked to the Pixel 6 or newer models, that exclusivity could finally end.

Take a Message Feature Could Expand Soon to Non-Pixel Phones

A recent teardown of the Phone by Google app version 221.0.909663815 by Android Authority suggests strong evidence of the Smart Voicemail expanding beyond Pixel smartphones. Code strings found in the teardown suggest Google is testing a feature internally called Beesly, which is the codename for the Take a Message feature.

Like Google's previous efforts to bring Pixel-exclusive features to non-Pixel phones, the code includes a string named enabledBeeslyV2NonPixel. This strongly indicates that Google is prepping to make the feature work on standard Android smartphones from other brands.

Alongside the feature's expansion, the app's code also outlines when the feature could roll out to different countries and it's divided into a few different capability tiers.

For starters, the ability to record both Audio and Transcripts is expected to arrive for users in Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Japan. These countries are slated to get the full experience of the feature. On the other hand, countries like Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and other portions of Europe will get the Audio-only version.

There's good news for Pixel users in the subcontinent too, as the enableBeesV2InMarket string has also been spotted, hinting at a more tailored rollout of the feature for Indian users. For those unaware, the feature is currently not available in the country on Google Pixel phones or other Android phones.

While the Take a Message feature is not officially active on non-Pixel smartphones yet, these preparations suggest a wider, official launch could be right around the corner. With The Android Show 2026 I/O edition scheduled for today, we could hear more about the expansion during the event, so stay tuned to Beebom Gadgets.
