For the past few years, Google has systematically phased out Google Assistant in favour of Gemini. While this has been true for most smartphones in the market, the ones running Android Go edition still kept the OG Android assistant alive. That changes today with the launch of Gemini Go.
Gemini Go Announced for Android Go Phones
A new support document released by Google has revealed that the popular Assistant Go smart assistant, based on Google Assistant will now be replaced by Gemini Go, a streamlined Gemini experience for Android Go phones.

Gemini Go is positioned as a "new conversational experience" that replaces Google Assistant to help Android Go edition smartphone users experience the core features of the AI assistant. Gemini Go is built on the core Gemini foundation and can help users ask Gemini to make calls and texts, find local info like ETAs, restaurant recommendations and more.
Users can even use Gemini Go to plan their day by creating new calendar events, setting up alarms and reminders, and use it to upload files like photos, documents and more for context-aware answers. To access Gemini Go, users can simply touch and hold the home button or press and hold the power button.
The document confirms that Gemini Go needs minimum 2 GB of RAM to run and will be available to all Android Go edition smartphones in the coming weeks. So, in case you are using a phone running Android Go, make sure to check out if Gemini Go is available for you.
