While Samsung and Apple have long been rumoured to be developing "wide" foldables, Huawei is reportedly ready to beat them both to the finish line. According to the reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, Huawei will unveil the Pura X Max alongside the Pura 90 series China launch on April 20, 2026.
New renders from tipster Fixed Focus Digital have also provided a first look at the Huawei Pura X Max design. Unlike the original Huawei Pura X, which was a clamshell, the Pura X Max looks to be a horizontally unfolding, book-style foldable with a significantly wider aspect ratio.

As for the design itself, we see the Huawei Pura X Max feature a horizontal camera module instead of a vertical one. In addition, apart from the Huawei logo on the back panel and hinge, the rest of the design appears to be relatively clean.
Interestingly, the leaked renders showcase a form factor that bears a resemblance to the rumoured Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide design that surfaced earlier.
The form factor also puts the Huawei Pura X Max in direct competition with Apple's long-rumoured entry into the foldable market. Recent iPhone Fold renders suggest that Apple is also leaning toward a wider, more substantial folding display.
Huawei Pura X Max Specifications (Expected)
While full specifications remain under wraps, the Pura X Max is expected to feature a 7.69-inch 16:10 WQHD+ inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen. Under the hood, Huawei's wide foldable could be powered by the Kirin 9030 chipset.
As per leaks, the upcoming foldable could also flaunt a telephoto lens in its setup, backed by Huawei's proprietary Red Maple Quad Camera system.
Additionally, considering the Pura X packs a 4,720mAh battery in a smaller clamshell form, we can expect the Pura X Max to bump it up to around 6,000mAh or even more. However, Huawei could also use Silicon Carbon Battery to further increase the capacity while keeping the foldable relatively slimmer.
If the Huawei Pura X Max does launch in April, it will debut as the premier wide foldable choice for power users before Apple or Samsung can debut their respective wide formats.
