Meta has now rolled out its AI-powered 'Imagine Me' feature in India, allowing users to generate personalised AI-generated images of themselves. The feature is live across all of Meta's core apps – WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.
In a press release sent out to publications, Meta confirmed the new feature's roll out. For those unaware, first rolled out in the U.S., Meta's 'Imagine Me' allows users to create stylised AI images of themselves in different scenarios by simply typing prompts like "imagine me as an astronaut" or "imagine me as an anime superhero".
However, the feature requires users to first go through a brief setup process to start creating AI images. For starters, users will need to type in "Imagine me as" in the Meta AI panel of WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger. Doing so will summon a Imagine Me panel where users will need to hit the "Get Started" button. Then, users will need to allow Meta to "analyse and generate images".

Once that's out of the way, they will need to capture their face from different angles and upload a set of reference photos for Meta AI to understand their appearance better. This allows the chatbot to use the user's face data to generate creative AI images in various styles. The feature uses Meta's Llama 3 AI model to generate the images.

Meta says that privacy remains a key focus and users can control whether they want to use the feature, delete uploaded reference photos or manage their preferences at any time via the Imagine Yourself AI settings panel. The company also notes that the images are intentionally overly stylised to avoid risks of misuse or impersonation.
With this, Meta seems to be making AI all the more fun to use and a helpful tool to drive the creative thinking of people. Besides, going by reports, we also know that Meta is working to introduce helpful AI-powered features like an AI writing tool, AI chat summarisation and more to WhatsApp. So, we are looking forward to those and everything else that Meta has in store for its social media apps.
‘Imagine Me’ is currently being rolled out on Android devices across Meta’s messaging apps. Availability on iOS is expected to follow, though the company hasn’t announced a timeline yet.
