OpenAI has announced the launch of ChatGPT Go in India, a new subscription tier designed to make the service more accessible to Indian consumers. The plan offers increased limits compared to the free version at an affordable price.
ChatGPT's VP and head Nick Turley took to X to announce the launch of ChatGPT Go in India. The plan costs Rs 399 and offers 10x higher message limits, image generations and file upload limits, while boasting twice the memory compared to the free tier.
All users in India will now see prices for subscriptions in Indian Rupees, and can now pay through UPI.

The firm is positioning Go as a middle ground between the free plan and its higher-end subscription tiers. In addition to the new plan, OpenAI has localised the payment experience in India. The prices of Plus and Pro are Rs 1,999 and Rs 19,900 per month, respectively.

All users in the country will see the prices displayed in Indian rupees and can pay through UPI (Unified Payments Interface), a widely used digital payments system in the country.
Turley also added that affordability has been a key request from users globally, but India is the first country where the Go plan is rolling out. OpenAI will use the feedback from Indian subscribers to refine the offering before expanding it to other regions.
The new ChatGPT Go plan highlights the importance of India as a huge market for AI, where more users are seeking value-for-money subscription models. At Rs 399, ChatGPT Go undercuts many AI subscription plan prices while bundling meaningful upgrades for power users.
Could this force other AI services to offer more affordable tiers in the country? Only time will tell.
