With next-generation wearables gaining momentum, Qualcomm is dipping its toes into headset processors two years after the release of Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2. The brand has announced the Snapdragon Reality Elite processor and it will power the upcoming mixed reality headsets and smart glasses.

Snapdragon Reality Elite Specifications and Features

Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon Reality Elite at the Augmented World Expo 2026, and it will power the next generation of XR experiences. The brand says that it's designed for an immersive experience on premium mixed reality headsets and will power the upcoming Android XR devices, coming first to XREAL's Project Aura.

As for its specifications, it supports resolutions of up to 4.4K per eye at 90 fps with hardware-accelerated ray tracing, Mesh Shading and Slice architecture. Qualcomm claims it can deliver AI performance of up to 48 TOPS with support for 3B parameter on-device LLMs at a staggering 45 tokens per second.

Besides, the brand claims that Snapdragon Reality Elite bumps the GPU performance by 60% and NPU performance by 160% in comparison to the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2. There are massive improvements to battery and thermals, with the processor claimed to provide up to 20% longer battery life and run 12 degrees cooler.

Lastly, the processor adds two new accelerators called 3D point cloud and triangulation and 3D reconstruction and meshing. These allow converting raw spatial data into realistic digital models, and aid in capturing a real-world object to convert it into a 3D model.

That said, while Qualcomm hasn't named any big potential players that may use the tech in their upcoming devices, we know that Samsung is expected to come out with its own AR headset soon. Similarly, the upcoming Meta Quest 4 could feature the Snapdragon Reality Elite. Stay tuned!
