In a conversation with us, Realme has confirmed that it is retiring Realme UI, with the brand's future smartphones set to launch with Oppo's ColorOS 17 instead. We reached out to Realme India for clarity following earlier reports of a potential merger between the two software skins, and the company has now verified the switch directly to us.

Realme Will Continue Investing in the Indian Smartphone Market

According to Realme, the move is aimed at streamlining software development and simplifying the update process going forward, rather than signalling any change in the brand's standing. The company also confirmed to us that "India remains one of Realme's key strategic markets, with the brand continuing to invest in the country."

Existing Realme phones that are still within their promised update window will continue to receive software upgrades as scheduled, just based on ColorOS 17 instead of Realme UI going forward.

It's worth pointing out that this isn't entirely new territory for Realme. The brand's earliest phones actually ran ColorOS before it broke away to build Realme UI back in 2020, so this move essentially brings things full circle. From a user's perspective, the shift likely won't feel out of place either, since Realme UI has always shared much of its DNA with ColorOS under the hood.
