We are waiting for Samsung to launch the Galaxy S26 series by early 2026. While the upcoming lineup is the talk of the town, there are already rumours floating regarding the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The latest one reveals that the 2027 smartphone may not bring the camera upgrades fans have been hoping for.
Samsung is resurrecting the Galaxy S23 Ultra via the S27 Ultra
Well-known tipster Ice Universe took to X to claim that Samsung will be reusing the same 200 MP main camera sensor found inside the Galaxy S23 Ultra, for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Now, while this might seem like the South Korean brand is moving backwards, it is not. In fact, the brand is being consistent.

For context, the Samsung ISOCELL HP2 200 MP sensor was introduced first with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Since then, it has made its way via the S24 Ultra as well as the more recent Galaxy S25 Ultra. Now, with the Galaxy S27 Ultra in tow to receive the same camera, it makes the Galaxy S26 Ultra a confusing contender.
Only last month, Daniel Araujo, VP of Samsung’s Mobile Experience Division confirmed that the Galaxy S26 series will bring new camera sensors. So, this means that there is a very high chance the Galaxy S26 Ultra is getting camera upgrades. So, it doesn't make sense for the brand to resort to older hardware with a smartphone which is set to launch in 2027. Ice claims that Samsung is looking to resort to this decision keeping profitability in mind.

Moreover, with the all-new Sony LYT-901 200 MP camera sensor out, one would expect Samsung to lead by example. However, Ice Universe claims that not only is the Galaxy S27 Ultra not adopting the new sensor, but fans might have to wait till the Galaxy S20 Ultra to actually see the new Sony camera in use.
That said, since this is a leak at the time of writing, take it with a pinch of salt. We will make sure to report on anything concrete once more details crop up. There is still a very long time left for the Galaxy S27 series to go official. So, stay tuned for more updates regarding the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
